However, I am starting a new job tomorrow so will not be able to go.

Is that the "heads up" to check to see if the seats go back into general inventory? And I'm sure, for the right offer, you could identify exactly when the cancellation might be made

Yes, would be glad for a heads up. Two seats are very rare to come by to LDH. Shame you can't go.

Has anyone had any luck getting them to waive this fee on compassionate grounds?

I'll probably need to cancel a domestic award booking made for my parents due to a family medical emergency, and whilst they do have travel insurance which should cover it, it'll make things much easier if Qantas just ignore the fee...

Doesn't hurt to ask.

I thought I was home free recently with a refund on upgrades for domestic sectors on an itinerary to Bangkok (trip was cancelled due to the situation over there), but Qantas giveth:

and then Qantas taketh:

Oh well

Didn't hurt, it but it didn't help either.

Other than them mentioning "travel insurance" about 3 times, I got a simple "No".
