Welcome to your first post on FT?

There is nothing simple about Algeria in general, but the simplest I've had with ALG "transit" is to flag down whoever is manning the jet bridge upon disembarkation, tell them you're en correspondance (in French or Arabic will get you farther, I've felt), they will escort you to an active gate, wait for everyone to do their security, then they will reverse the security belt and you will go "backwards" through security back into the departures lounge area. Boarding pass was not needed when I did this (I got it printed when gate staff arrived for my next flight), but they did ask to see my ticket as a cursory check.

If you are on Air Algerie I'm sure there's a better way of doing it, however I did not see a transit channel last time I was there.

This also allows free stopovers in the US (JFK or ORD).

SF jumped on it this morning and called it the E word so you can bet as sure this deal will be dead in seconds.

Did not jump on it because it's not my alliance, the 2 night stopovers in AMM, the 2 night stop in ALG, and the positioning would make it similar in price in the end to a standard TAP deal or so. Not to mention that NYC over Xmas is overcrowded and overexpensive. However for 1W flyers it's an amazing deal and chance to visit north Africa and the middle east a bit on your way. Grab it while you still can!

Thanks for the advice!!

SF calls this an "error", just like the CAI-AMM-BKK-KUL fare that keeps popping up. Haha!

To clarify, most passport holders would still require a transit visa to do this.

Nice fare, but the visa is a dealbreaker for many. It isn't just the cost, but the hassle - last time I needed one, my passport was held at the embassy in London for six weeks and I became convinced they had lost it altogether. Then it arrived with the wrong travel dates on it.

I had a similar appalling experience with the Algerian Embassy in Australia. Very incompetent.

Presumably you can pay for some sort of visa expediting service and avoid this? Though I imagine its probably expensive to do so.

Yes, but I wouldn't assume the application would receive any greater care or attention

I may try this one myself . Thanks for posting. I need to get back there again. Just a few comments.

Algiers , the coast , and the deep Sahara are worth a visit. Just keep in mind security issues. The reciprocity fee issue is worldwide for US citizens. Most government officials will admit privately that it is an ignorant policy. They know that most Americans will not overstay or seek employment. They would welcome the extra revenue but politics do not allow common sense. They do mention that some activists do pose a problem but can be screened at the border. Just the comments on this thread show that it will stop some folks from going to Algeria.

Not a problem! You can search Google Flights for round-trips starting in November.
