We do, they are called the TSA Red Team. Headquarters TSA sends out this team of people who try and bring bombs, knives, and guns through the checkpoint. They are pretty sneaky about it, hiding things in odd places and pretending to be people with disabilities and such. Reasonably good acting as well.
We also have our own people going around to satellite airports (at least in my area) doing basically the same thing. TSIs grab a new hire TSO and give then the scenario to try and see what happens.

Just some testing to see what a typical passenger goes through. Perhaps acting unsure of what is expected, you know, baggie not removed and that kind of stuff. More in an attempt to guage the customer service aspect of what people seem to complain about on a regular basis.
Testing for weapons intrusion should be a seperate activity.
The people on the checkpoint could never know they were tested or it would skew the results on future testing.
This would be more in line with getting a feel for the corporate climate.

How many people do poorly enough to be relieved of their jobs?
If you fail a test cycle how long do you get to requalify?
How many attempts to get it right before termination?

They have the same training we do for the most part. Some of the problems we have are the technical limitations of the organization - we are using 1970 era xrays with new software packages. I am sure that EWR passes their fair share of red team tests.

Well, Friends, I'll finally get to see for myself how well-trained officers are at other airports. This week I'll be on the road evaluating officers for their annual skills certification. I have a feeling that I'll probably find myself on the road for the rest of the fiscal year, so I'll get to experience a lot of checkpoint screening as well.
This should be interesting.

So happy to hear you can still legally publicly humiliate us grandparents and get paid for it.
Damned if I'll be one of them. If congratulations are in order I admit I canNOT understand why.
Enjoy your profession, fellow American.
