The 20 layers of security

The TSA blog must be getting desperate to prove the agency's value as they have now published the 20 layers of security. As anybody who has read the blog knows, they have not been terribly successful in proving their worth.

"One thing I don't understand - what exactly does ID checking have to do with security? As long as the person's belongings is contraband free, then what's the big deal with their ID's? The old contracted ID checkers used to check ID's quickly and without much fuss; now the TSA ID checkers take double as long and it holds up the lines.

Can anyone over at TSA Hq clarify on this, please?"

That was the first post at the bottom. I wonder if it will stay and if they will answer?

Once the layers hit their teenage years they get so crazy...lord knows what will happen when the layers turn 21.

Ciao,
FH

That was me, fyi.

And, yeah, I think that the 20 layers being posted on the blog is just more propaganda to make people try to understand what the point of TSA's existence is. Let's see what the rest of the comments will be like.

IMO, the TSA's only role should be to ensure those items listed as being prohibited past the checkpoint are kept landside. This duty should be performed as cheerfully and as politely as possible. The checking of ID's through silly spectacles, highlighting of boarding passes, pretending to be psychiatrists, etc are all very impresive (to most americans at any rate) but really need to be dropped forthwith.

Just all in an effort to try and make the TSA look relevant and all-world saving.

Clearly, the TSA needs to waste more money on a PR firm to create a powerpoint deck for them. This one clearly doesn't show any value to the American public.

20 layers... makes me think of one of those Mexican restaurant nacho platter monstrosities. Come to think of it, the TSA gives me indigestion too.

I didn't realize TSA meant anything more than "Thousands Standing Around."

Interesting...

Right, but you'd at least think they'd have something to back it up.

Might as well put:

Batman and the Wonder Twins up there too.

With many apologies to Paul Simon.....

The screener stopped me and said, I cant let you through,
Not with your bottle of that dangerous shampoo.
The TSA is watching everything you do.
Weve got 20 layers of security.

Were keeping you safe, though we do not like to brag,
Our BDOs spot each behavioral red flag,
Like insults written down on your Kip Hawley bag.
Weve got 20 layers of security.

Show me your ID, Lee.
Take off your shoes, Lou.
Want to fly today, Ray?
We got security.

Youre SSSS, Bess.
Now youre in a big mess;
Ill cop a feel for free.
We got security.

He said,

You should be grateful that we put you through all this.
Its for your own good that youre always being frisked.
Now let me strip search this kid on the no fly list.
Weve got 20 layers of security.
