That's where you are wrong.

If it's declared, it HAS to be true.

You aren't paying attention. :D

Good question. As it's completely hosed, why not just scrap it entirely?

There is no point in telling someone how important something is, then disproving yourself by your actions.
I agree. Unfortunately, this seems to be par for the course with DHS. :(

The NFL check occurs when the passenger checks in, in person, via OLCI or kiosk which is waaay before the TSA checkpoint or the involvement of TSA staff. Verifying ID (again) at the checkpoint and sometimes after as well (a different rant ;) ) is to ensure that the boarding pass has not been subsequently acquired by someone other than the named passenger. Unless the proposal is that the pre-checkpoint verification be linked* electronically and instaneously to the NFL database then it is NOT a no-fly check.

*Lots of $$$ and some nice windfall for the "preferred" (ie. non-competitive) supplier(s) there.

Maybe the NFL is not being implemented "correctly" because more and more of those involved with it see it for the farce it actually is. Can't expect an official admission though - why that would be like saying "we made a mistake" .

Wow, that's a logical explanation for your point of view.

None of the law enforcement contributors here (and elsewhere) have ever denied that their implicit desire is to turn airport security checks into a law enforcement activity.

Some of the rest of us think that a Very Bad Idea, and the reasons have been given.

Yes, your background does color your views on airport security. You're not alone.
