Checking Liquids

I think I have a totally stupid question....

I want to bring down a bottle of Pepsi to South America and I am going to check it. My question is: Will it bust open under pressure or something? I have no idea what the pressure or temperature is where they keep checked bags?? Will something happen like sticking it in the freezer to long??? I just don't want to open my luggage and discover my clothes are covered in Pepsi.

Don't do it. The problem's not the conditions in the hold, the problem is your bag getting tossed around during handling.

You have to be going pretty far from civilization to get away from Pepsi. Chances are it'll be available in any place big enough to have an airport with flight connections to the US.

Thanks!

I am laughing at myself for asking such a totally stupid question and that I thought the best suited/matched forum was in a TSA forum.

There is Pepsi where I am going but not this new "Tropical Pepsi" so I was going to bring it for people to try. I'm leaving tonight, so unless I hear something else, I think I'll leave the Tropical Pepsi at home. I didn't think about the bag getting tossed around. That'll shake it up pretty good. I can't believe I'm asking such a goofy question, but I have never checked a bag, so I have no clue. I'm a carry on only kind of guy until this flight.

Not a stupid question at all. A few years ago I was meeting a friend from the UK in Paris. He had a simple request. A&W Root Beer. It's something not available (at the time) in Europe.

So I packed 24 cans of A&W's finest into one of those styrofoam wine shipping containers and checked it as luggage. Everything was in excellent condition when we arrived in Paris and I only received a strange look from the French customs agent for declaring A&W Root Beer.

While in Paris I did some wine shopping and packed it back into the styrofoam shipping container and checked it again coming back through. I declared the 12 bottles of wine. The customs agent did some quick math in his head and determined that it was a waste of time to charge me the tariff as it would have been less than a dollar.
