Presumably not.

Says it all.

The rules for flying into a country that has been at war with enemies (yes, plural) who have used people as bombs at regular intervals for decades simply MUST be more stringent. How can anyone not understand that?

Don't like it? Don't go there ... but save any childish whining.

Which would mean that other than a bomb or tragedy here and there, the US hasn't had a war fought on its soil since the Civil War. That would make the idiocy here a big overreaction.

Oh, yes. It is a big overreaction. And not even close to being effective security. Though there may be effective counter intelligence going on behind the scenes, what we see is inane, insane, and would be laughable if not for the cost and the inconvenient.

I have no idea how many hundreds of attacks Israel has undergone or has defused. But their is clearly a whole different situation than is America's.

TSA does not have to be effective security. If TSA were effective security, then 100% of cargo would be screened. If TSA were effective security, then all ground crew and airline workers with access to the "sterile area" would be screened to the same extent as passengers, and all potentially harmful implements (i.e. kitchen knives) would be carefully tracked. But TSA only has to present the illusion of security - Kabuki security - to impress the flying public. When passengers see the shoe carnival and confiscation of liquids in containers larger than 3 oz. (or is it 3.4 oz or 100 ml.?), it appears that our government is doing something to make air travel safe. The TSA dog and pony show may make for acceptable security theater, but it should not be confused with effective security. Israel, on the other hand, has effective security because of the sheer number of terrorists in close proximity who have often tried to attack it with explosives. Big difference.

Israeli security and freedom is under constant threat from the outside (i.e., from other governments, and deliberate acts by non-Israeli citizens). American security and freedom is under constant threat from the inside (i.e., from the American government and clueless American citizens). The two situations call for very different responses and systems.

Security is done right at LAS Terminal 2, JHM, & HNL Commuter and I/I Terminals. Kudos to the TSA at those 4 checkpoints. Dozens of transits through those checkpoints have shown the TSA to be efficient without being surly or unpredictably capricious or pointless. They are friendly, quick, and no hassle, and even recognize us as frequent flyers and greet us with a smile. No foolin'. We see the same agents over and over again. I'm sad to hear horror stories from travelers at other checkpoints, but if you want to experience security done right: LAS Terminal 2, JHM, & HNL Commuter and I/I Terminals are a pleasure. Kudos to the TSA at those 4 stations!
