Had to Take Flip Flops off!

Just got back from MIA on 4/7

While going through the metal detector I was asked to take my flip flops off.

I would normally argue, but my flight was on the final boarding call.

What is happening with security?

IME, this changed post 8/10, which is odd since flip-flops are not liquid. when i left in july for transpac, i always changed into flipflops for security, never had a problem. coming back for domestic connection, was made to go barefoot (ok fine with socks ). they dont even have the courtesy to provide coverings. maybe i should use the baggies.

This happens to me regularly at MIA, and with one very "jovial" screener at MCO that appears to have a chip on his shoulder.

I wonder what would happen if I dropped one paper towel on the floor for each foot.

I usually am dressed up as I fly for business, but I think flip flops with a sole barely a quater of an inch is stupid.

At least you didn't step on a pop-top.

This is what happens when you let a disgusting, candy-assed little shoe pervert like Comrade Kip Hawley dictate "security" rules.

The x-ray doesn't detect explosives, but this sicko makes people remove their shoes and put them into the x-ray anyway.

Comrade Hawley should be caned and fired.

Maybe I'll walk through some mud next time I fly, and let the TSO handle my muddy sandals... then wash my feet and sandals off in the restroom

I wonder what would happen if you wore transparent dust covers, like the ones used in clean rooms? These are not shoes, and are disposable. Perhaps their little heads would be overloaded while trying to figure out what to do.
