Kiwi Kerfuffle
Passenger carries rifle on plane
NZPA | Sunday, 18 March 2007
Security measures on provincial airline routes are under the spotlight again after a passenger managed to carry a rifle on board a flight from New Plymouth and Auckland.
The man was only pulled aside after he landed in Auckland and was boarding another flight to Kerikeri...
There are no formal screening procedures for flights in provincial New Zealand...

Well, how's a bloke supposed to keep the varmints out of his fruit orchards, pray tell?
But this is the best part of the article.....
"The latest scare comes after a Sikh priest was asked to hand over his religious dagger by a pilot after he boarded a plane from Auckland to Napier in January. Jarnail Singh said the issue only served to highlight the racism his community faced in the post-September 11 world."
What race was the dagger? Oh, the suffering.

It's a big deal (the dagger) in a lot of countries.
Currently, as I understand it from my Canuk relatives, young Sikh's can carry their daggers to school.
Several stabbings a year, mostly unreported by the MSM, of course.

Typically the dagger is quite small, almost a pin. It's rare that anything particularly dangerous is carried for the religious reasons for day to day life if only because it's a pain to have to carry this stuff around.
