If you subscribe to any of the civil rights organization's daily email shots, you will read a number of idiotic stories such as this each week.

Deaf South Asian and Middle Eastern children/youths are amongst the pigs favourite targets. There are a few stories of these kids being arrested for "signing" to one another.

Do you have a link to any of these stories? I'd be interested in
reading them.

Deaf people are too often detained and/or arrested simply because they couldn't hear LEOs' inquiries, orders or shouts or because the party they may be struggling to communicate with gets frustrated and then engages in knee-jerk overreactions. Happens at stores too. :td:

I am so amazed that of all people Eastwest is the one that was arrested. Knowing him and having encountered pretty stressful situations with him I know he is totally cool under pressure and has saved my a$$ a time (or two). A sarcastic comment coming from him? Absolutely. An emotional, knee jerk reactionist? Never from him, that's *my* job!

It is so unfortunate he thinks he needs to work for an airline, I can understand his hesitation to pursue official recourse.

All I could think when reading the post is how wrong they were and how easy it is to railroad innocent people. It is very frightening. People think we have all of these rights in this country, I have news, not only have we lost our rights in the airports, it has extended to our homes too. Not to go all OMNI here, but geez, if this can happen to Eastwest I am just so lost about where we go from here.

p.s.
The part that hurt the most was hearing about the tv dinner, I am so sorry.

Is a cop flashing a light in your eyes really probable cause for arrest and making you give a blood sample, generally speaking? This sounds like a pretty low threshold.

gregorygrady Oct 31, 2006 2:10 am

Wow, this is something else. I too urge you to talk to a lawyer and/or contact the media about this. If you don't do anything about it, it will just happen again and again!!!!

And thanks for these links. I ended up going thru and reading some of these posts. Did anybody else notice this post in that thread by eastwest? Do ya think he spoke too soon:

For this reason, let me add to the chorus of people imploring you to file suit against TSA and the department. I know it will be an aggravating hassle, but it is vitally important that the system of justice which is supposed to keep these abuses in check be utilized!

Gee did you live in Maricopa County :td:

eastwest - knowing you personnally - this sucks

Sounds like Broward County Florida...or Palm Beach...or St Lucie...or Volusia...actually, it could be anywhere in Florida, since a good deal of the state is known for brutish and often violent behavior towards people, especially minorities, by various Sheriff departments with much of it going unpunished.

I agree with that. I always remember 11 Nov because I lost two good friends on that day who gave all they had for this country. I'm sure they are rolling in their graves over the cowardly and despicable acts that the TSA is doing daily.

Michael - Just flashed on your bio and you locale in Spencer. I'm a Boji girl married to a Spencer boy and just had to say hi.

(Also, a rubber-band ball arrest? Just fan-tab-ulous. Let's throw the bums out already.)

Don't be upset about this. Just find an extremely good lawyer and sue them for a huge amount of money. Your civil rights were violated. Sue them and have them pay you a huge amount of money. The only sad part is you didn't ask for a lawyer some point through this process.

Sadly, this stuff will not change whoever we have in office... having your president/congressperson/etc of choice in office will not change this.
From other threads you can see how many people have recv'd responses from their emails/letters/phone calls from their congresspersons, reps, etc. Very low response rate, means to me they do not really care.

To eastwest, please pursue this through legal channels.
IMO that is the only way injustices like this will change/stop.
