ban on toothpaste etc. illogical

KY lubricant in 4 oz tubes IS permitted; yet a 1 oz (or less) of toothpaste or antibiotic ointment is NOT. Why couldn't a terrorist empty a 4 oz tube of KY and fill it with "bad stuff "; isn't this a greater risk than a 1 oz tube of toothpaste?

Answer: No, they do not.

I don't understand the KY exception.

That's giving the government too much credit.

The whole thing's illogical. As has been pointed out, the TSA doesn't really think these things are dangerous; otherwise, they wouldn't pile them up in big garbage cans right at the security checkpoint, where large groups of people are typically found. Wouldn't terrorists like to blow up alot of people at the airport as well?

This is all just about inducing fear.

Sure they can, or you can do this: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showp...2&postcount=24

The TSA can't make me prove that this is NOT KY Jelly.

I was an assistant director of a major US Gov't agency for four years. 25 other years in private sector. The lesson I learned was that decisions in any agency are highly politically drived by career status employees who could never make it in a decision oriented private envioonment. Actually what I found frustrating that it is better to make no decision and keep your name out of it that take a stand.

The TSA is no different so expect knee jerk committee reactions that grab a few headlines and are of little value. Unfortunately the grades of a line screener are not ,if at all, much different than mail room, curriers, or other very low level pernonnel. Sadly my secretary's grade was more that double a screener.

I am afraid we will have to live with what ever they come up with and to be glad it is not worse. I agree with all that an oz of toothpaste in pretty lame. Recently I had a knee replaced and the time I spend at screening is unbelieable. I think that if I dawned a turbin and prayed to the east as I went thru I would be theated better. Just waiting for tha day I find a non travel status job.

Not necessarily; probably unlikely.

Agreed, it is the politics of fear.
With midterm elections close at hand, the administration appears to be doing something and to change it now would be an admission that it was a gross overreaction when it started.
Illogical, stupid, but it appeals to those who would do anything in the name of security.

As I have posted several times before, "TSA" and "logic" appear to be mutually exclusive concepts.
