Hasn't found a terrorist yet

"In the places where it is being used, the program has resulted in 95 arrests, McCauley said.

Arrests were not for terrorism, but for drug smuggling, false immigration documents and other crimes.TSA officials point to them as proof of the program's value."

And for this we are paying how many billions of dollars?

What I find interesting about the story:

1. This program is not being run by the TSA, but by the local security, so it is different.

2. SPOT is already in place at "at least one" Houston airport according to an unnamed federal official.

What I find ironic:

1. The story made the front page of the Houston Chronicle and just to the left of it (perhaps rather appropriate) is the article about the ruling that secret wiretaps are unconstitutional.

That "SPOT-is-a-winner" line sounds like a law enforcement fishing expedition being justified. Disappointing that the Constitution which prohibits law enforcement fishing expeditions is being burned and stomped on by the government's own. But this does not surprise.

How is the tsa idiots going to learn this ? These people that are suppose to be keeping us safe can't even tell one airlines bags from the other.
For instance, they are always sending us bags that go to other airlines. When you try to explain this to their lead or spvr they just roll their eyes. And this is simple stuff.

Simple stuff -- how about being able to determine what one inch means for shoes? Not that it matters any longer as it appears that the TSA gave up when it said ALL shoes must go through the x-ray.

If they can catch, prosecute and imprison people for drug smuggling, this program will win public approval. If the statement is accurate, it sounds like this program is here to stay.

.... unless/until enough judges put an end to it.
