I have never had hardsided (plastic) luggage.
I recently bought a Delsey Helium bag with a built-in TSA-openable combination lock. It is a very light (6 lb) full size 25" suitcase with four wheels and a retracting handle. The two clamshell halves are made of polycarbonate (allegedly "bulletproof") black plastic, they zip together and the zipper pulls are held together with the TSA lock. I like it a lot.

But then again, they haven't experienced thousands dying in one day, yet. Lockerbie probably could have been prevented with tighter security. Let the flaming begin

That is why your suitcases look so bad sometimes.
It is rough on them and I see locks, tags, the medal pulls, etc all over the belts. Twist ties and zip locks are your best bet.
This is also the case at our airport. There are hundreds of locks, zipper tabs, name tags etc etc littering the floors beneath the belts. If I was a passenger, I would be more concerned with vehicles picking up this stuff in the tires and bringing it to the flightline where it becomes FOD (foreign object damage sucked into the engine)

I'm sure that must be true at every aiport with the machinery involved. Not only do you see locks, zippers, etc. littering the floor, but also bits and pieces of the doodads people attach to their bags, like ribbons, lace, scraps of fabric, beaded chains, zipper pulls, key chains, etc.

They said it was approved and sent me a form asking if I wanted a check or a direct deposit. I sent that back asking for a check, nothing has showed up yet but at the glacial pace they have been proceeding on this I wouldn't exactly expect a check yet.

FYI, the TSA moved their "money center" to New Orleans just prior to the hurricane. Your waiting for your check, and I'm waiting to get paid the right amount.

Yes, I use the locks, they are well worth it, just to alleviate the hassle. Mrs. M8 used them also.

I have been using the same locks since April 2004 (bought two packs of two at the same time) and I have only lost one. I like having the locks for peace of mind and recommend them.

I used those locks all the time--Can't trust those screeners/handlers, lest some drug dealers that could stuff illegal drugs in my bag. Remember that Australian girl got caught in Indonesai carrying drugs in her checked baggage ? She might have been a mule (drug carrier), but she could easily been framed by druggy handlers or screeners who stuffed drugs in passenger's luggage at the departure airport, to be retrieved by their gang at the arrival airport.

However, my dad had lost two of those TSA locks this year after his luggage was opened by TSA. I guess they never bothered to re-attach those TSA-approved locks, since they all think they are King, not civil servents.
