But he's not connected to any known terrorist group. We need to know a lot more about this one.

Interesting.

1. Let's see this playout in court.
2. Let's find out what exactly the "IED" was.

An IED could be a can of hairspray with a match and string or cotton ball.

Gotta love how a TSA apologist is looking for an "atta boy", when all the screener in OKC did was what they were supposed to do.

How much does anyone want to bet that the screener, leads, supervisors, screening managers, AFSD's and the FSD all get "lifetime acheivement" awards for saving the country from another "terrorist attack"?

Let's not get excited, now. From the Shawnee News-Star:

Federal agents arrested a Norman man at Will Rogers World Airport after a possible explosive device was found in one of his bags, the FBI said Wednesday.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

You guys are just absolutely ridiculous. How many times have you come on here and merrily blasted the TSA for each and every rumor posted, from the sexually molested to the theft of luggage. Here they finally get a positive article, and you are sneaking up on it like it is a rattlesnake. "Easy now boys, don't want to go and give credit to them thar' screeners too soon"! I have a feeling it will only be "interesting" if it is proven that it was not an IED. Then everyone can calm down and go back to posting how stupid the screeners are and how much money they waste as they steal your personal freedoms. Whether it's an IED or not, GREAT JOB TSA! ^

Have a great day all!

Was this "bomb" found in the man's left shoe or in his right shoe?

Neither was Tim Mcvey, Terry Nichols, Ted Kaczynski, Richard Ried or Eric Rudolph, You dont have to be associated with a known terrorist group in order to sow terror.

But he fit the profile of a middle eastern Muslim. Oh wait no he didn't! So many Saudis have the name Charles.

Actually the TSA folks in OKC are very friendly and efficient.

The only exception was when someone (the airline?) told them I was a bad guy and they wouldn't even let me into the checkpoint. No SSSSS either. I had to go back to the ticket counter and the TSA went through everything in my carry on bags in minute detail. They went through each sock and turned it inside out. Not just the usual take a gander and swab it kind of check. I have not seen anything like that before or since. And they were literally shaking with terror.

These were the same folks who would greet me when I got there "Mr XXXXXXX! Is it Thursday already?"

Sounds like they did a good job.

If this does turn out to be a real explosive (and one that would have been a real threat, not something like a string of firecrackers), what does it say to those who have been advocating profiling? This guy doesn't look Arabic to me, nor would his name suggest he's fundamentalist Islamic.

I do not think that anybody who advocates profiling, i.e. paying more attention to members of a group that many times have vowed to destroy the West, thereby proposes to exempt anyone from minimum screening. All passengers should go through metal detectors and have their bags X-rayed. In fact, this minimum procedure is what detected the IED - a screener saw the IED during the X-ray examination of idiot passenger's carry-on bag.

Those of us who advocate profiling think it is common sense not to waste limited resources on additional screening of Norwegian grandmothers (to use a group that several columnists have recently written about in columns) who do not alarm WTMD or bags indicate prohibited items, when members of that group have not demonstrated any indication to be a threat. In order to maximize the effectiveness of the $5.5 billion dollars spent annually on TSA, some of us think it is only common sense to concentrate on the likeliest threats, i.e. foreign male Muslims. They are the members of the class of people that have repeatedly expressed a desire to attack the U.S. Of course, if anyone else is suspicious, such as alarming the WTMD when no metal is apparent, X-ray of baggage indicates a problem, or odd bulges on person, then additional screening is required, even if that person is a Norwegian grandmother. This approach to additional screening is consistent with 4th Amendment jurisprudence, common sense, and practice at courthouses and other public areas.
