This is an interesting question though. My wife started wondering when I mentioned this thread as we hope to have a kid in the next year too.

My father's name was Adolph. He was in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Most people just called him Dutch

"When naming our children years and years ago we gave final consideration to how it would look on corporate letterhead. How sick is that?"
That is not sick at all. I just helped a friend pick a baby name, and that is one thing I considered. "Buffy" and "Muffy" are OK for cheerleaders, gymnasts, and actresses, but not a Fortune 500 president.
"Perhaps this explains why US friends recently named their son Maz. They said it's a common name in NZ where they recently vacationed."
It is also the nickname for Mazin, an Arabic name used by Palestinians.
I guess we all agree that naming baby "Marx Lenin Infidel Hunter Jihad Jones, Jr." might just might cause notice by the Boarding Pass Inspector? Nah, probably not. . .

Is there a way to check with the TSA or DHS to see if any of the names we are considering (along with our last name) will cause problems?
It's a shame that our country has come to this, but even if we really fell in love with a particular baby name, wed decide on something else if we knew it would cause airport harassment for us and for our child.

How would you like to have one of those names?

I don't think that you are being paranoid, just cautious. Who knows what the list will contain by the time that your child is old enough to be searched. I would assume (and we all know what happens when you do that) that soon we will all be fingerprinted and eye scaned and submit bodily fluids for steroid testing every time we go to the airport. Give him/her something that she'll be proud of...not Moon Unit or Dweezil.
