Is there a way to check with the TSA or DHS to see if any of the names we are considering (along with our last name) will cause problems?
It's a shame that our country has come to this, but even if we really fell in love with a particular baby name, we’d decide on something else if we knew it would cause airport harassment for us and for our child.
Name your child what you want to name it and pay no mind to the lists. First off the lists are not public information. You have no way to know who is on them. I saw one once and it was huge. It contained even names of people that are employees of companies that are known to have questionable business tactics with their funds. You dont want to saddle your child with some name that may not be pleasant to them because of what you perceived as a threat. Children under 12 are not subject to the SSSS anymore and so that is not an issue. You are right though that there is no age information on the data that is put in the ticketing computer therefore John Smith age 40 is on the list so is John Smith age 3mo. The sceure flight program should alleviate this though.
