TSA and Zero Halliburton

Okay Search is down, and Google did not turn up an answer.

I have bought a Zero Halliburton P4 Attache at a ridiculously price. Trying to decide whether to keep it or go for major profit on Ebay.

Question comes up, if I keep and use it, what hassles (other than ordinary shoe Carnival stuff) will TSA give me. Will I automatically get a full Secondary Screen or do I just have to open the Case? (or better yet, does the Xray go thru Aircraft Aluminum?

(Tried to figure out which forum was best and settled on Security. Considered Travel Buzz, Tech, and Security)

Also Google and Zero Halliburton gives a LOT of Cheney 9-11 pages. (Halliburton, Inc, and Ground Zero)

I have a large 26" Zero Halliburton case as well as the 20" carry-on. I get no more hassle than any other type of bag. Sometimes I have to open the carry-on after x-ray; sometimes not.

If I have both bags at the same time I usually get a question from a person in line asking if I have a nuclear bomb in my case. It does look like that especially when you think about any movie made about a suitcase bomb. Seems it is always in a silver aluminum case.

I don't care though as I love the luggage. Shows wear and tear but is extremely durable.

It won't be any different going thriugh the X-ray as the aluminum of a Zero Halliburton case is not sufficiently dense to completely block the X-rays. But they will think you're a drug dealer.

Ahhh those things.

I came accross them a few times.

Nice pieces. No problems going thru X-Ray, but dont lock it, I would sure hate to break the lock.

Just seen a few on ebay going for $150-$200. Not sure if its genuine or not...

Not sure how breakable the lock is. They are supposedly indestructible (featured one on NBC's "Lost" that they could not break into even by throwing it off a cliff or beating on it with a very large rock) Would have to drill out the combination locks and would take probably an hour or two for the one lock. besides, it is a briefcase so I would be carrying it on.

I'm resurrecting this old thread because it touches on a question I have. The folks that were giving me all the flak in the TASER thread are going to have fun with this one.

I recently purchased a Zero Halliburton 26" suiter, intended as checked baggage. The case includes an integral lock that I am told is very sturdy (as is the rest of the case), but it is not TSA-friendly. Moreover, there are no hasps or other hardware that I have found on it that will accept a TSA lock.

I occasionally fly with an unloaded, declared firearm in my checked baggage. TSA rules require that the firearm be unloaded, that it be declared at check-in, that a tag verifying the declaration be placed in the bag with the firearm, and that the firearm be contained in a locked, hardshell case. I usually keep the hardshell gun case inside my checked bag. How can I secure the gun case inside the checked bag without using a TSA lock, and yet allow TSA access to the inside of the checked bag for searching?

I know there are other travelers here who fly with their firearms. I am curious as to their experiences, if any, with this type of bag, and what suggestions they may have.

Anti-gun types, please sit on your hands.

I've flown with Zero Hallibuton bags for a very long time, many times going through all the TSA misery. Of recent years I kept them unlocked.

What put me off using them was their weight empty. I can't manage so much weight any more.

I have carried various sorts of equipment in those checked bags and all survived without being stolen. However, (and weirdly) I have had underwear stolen from my checked luggage on several trips.

If you lock the bag and the TSA breaks the lock, they are relatively easy to replace. Check with the maker to find out if they will sell you locks.

When the bags start looking nasty, you can clean them up with Bon Ami cleanser. Yes, it works well.

I've carried a Zero Halliburton laptop case for years with no issues. If you catch a glimpse of the x-ray monitor when the bag goes thru, you can see that it looks very similar to all the other bags.

(Just beware, Zeros are attractive targets for theives since they always look like something expensive is inside.)

I doubt if the lock on this bag could be broken without damaging the case itself. I have also understood from other ZH owners that the ZH locks are about as sturdy as they come. You can defeat the lock, but the case won't be worth much afterward.

You can only do this at airports that haven't integrated the screening system with the conveyor belts, but get there early and tell the screener that you will wait for the bags to clear in case they want to inspect it. They'll ask why, tell them that you're there to give them the key to the bag if they need to open it.

So far, no problems. The people at LAX ask if you have film, the luggage has a TSA lock, and if there are firearms inside (against the rules, but this runaway agency doesn't give a crap about the rules). I discreetly tell them yes and that I will be standing off to the side with the keys to the locks if they want to inspect it further.

I've always liked those. Are they available in black anodized?
