The INS card was the most expensive at $35! A buddy had one for Florida so he could get the "locals" discount when taking his FIVE kids to go see The Mouse.
Novelty cards are just the nuisance end of the problem. If you are willing to pay more (truthfully alot more than $100), there are individuals within various DMVs or even INS who will 'award' you a license or green card and create an entire identity for you on the basis of false papers and payment of a large fee.

When you begin looking deep into the system, there are so many holes that finding a dangerous person who is working hard to be hidden is like finding a grain of salt on a beach...which in turn makes banning online check-in for legitimate passengers quite silly. There is very little defense against a determined enemy who knows what they're doing and knows how to work the system. It doesn't mean you don't try to catch them, but throwing blanket bandages over the system which are highly unlikely to be effective, only makes the legitimate population miserable and gives more intelligence to the enemy.

Thumbs down

Great. This stupid article is getting picked up by our idiot politicians.

They did a "scary" story on the news about it today. And now my idiot Senator Schumer was on TV demanding that the airlines start checking ID at the gate again.

Actually worse - he was demanding the TSA check ID. What a great understanding he has of the system.

Schumer is likely the first and only member of Congress who scored 1600 on his SATs (back when that was hard!). He's not stupid in any way, shape or form. Obviously, he's (1) pandering to the public, showing them how much he cares about their safety, and (2) suggesting that the Bush Administration is mismanaging our "security." Typical political behavior, unfortunately.

Getting a high score on SATs doesn't mean a politician isn't an "idiot" for engaging in lame political pandering that benefits none but costs many.

The last time someone took over an airplane, they used their REAL names, and REAL Id cards.

Duh!

... at least we now know what Sen. Schumer (or one of his more senior aides) reads. [He is definetely smarter than Sen. Sessions.]
