Who knows what else they use it for and where it goes -- but that is more or less what is on your BP (name, flight, departure time).

Personally I think the "1.5-2 hours early" advice needs to be droppped for airports where it is clearly stupid. It's like crying wolf and loses its effectiveness. There's no way I'd ever show up > 1 hour early (no checked bags, automatic checkin) unless I had specific reason to believe it was needed, and because they say "1.5-2" for just about every airport, that information loses its validity.
