If you need more stuff than you can carry on to an airplane, ship it to your destination. You can not entrust your belongings, not even your underwear (listed as being among the many items stolen), to the checked baggage system now that our things are being opened and unpacked out of our sight.

Shipping things is quite easy. If money is no object, there are services that will deliver your bags door-to-door. If you're a struggling student like me you can quite inexpensively mail your suitcase with the U.S.Postal Service. You don't need to box it, just securely tape address labels on the outside and inside of the bag and bring it to the post office.

The point of my post was that all TSA locks are padlocks, and they don't really fit very well on a hard-sided suitcase (unless I want to add hardware and/or drill holes in my suitcase). For us old-timers who insist on using the old fashioned suitcase, there are no alternative means to leave the suitcase unlocked.

I see that one of the locks on your referenced site is on a strap, but that is way too easy to cut and throw away for me to even think about using it.

Not that easily done on a longer trip (next time: SNA, GRU, DFW, LON, ARN, ZRH). Granted I don't need to worry about unlocked suitcases in most of these places, but it is still too much shipping to make everything arrive on time.

Then you might want to check out this link on the same site. It's a locking luggage strap designed with hard-sided suitcases in mind.
