Lines getting longer at BWI
I found the longest line I can recall at BWI this morning. The Pier D line was backed up not just to the start of the international terminal, E, but all the way into the main body of terminal E where it had started to interfere with check-in lines for the international carriers.
But to their credit, the TSA seemed to be genuinely concerned about getting everybody to his flight on time. They periodically came through the line and called out people whose flight times were within the next 1/2 hour and pulled those people into the flight crew lanes 8 and 9. I still made my flight!

Security Delays
Grad Girl--Glad you made your flight, but sorry to hear that it had to be accomplished with such tension attached to it. Any insight as to why the line was so long? Too few lanes open? Too much scrutiny of passengers' persons/baggage? Too many flights taking off at the same time? Or something else?
I've only been through BWI as an international passenger since moving overseas. I was really amazed at the speed/ease with which I got through security when I flew back to Geneva this past May. That might have as much to do with the relatively smaller volume of international traffic, however.
Have you flown through Dulles or National lately? How do those security experiences compare?

ExPatinGeneva,
Probably just too many flights all at one time. However, I think there has been a recent change of FSD at BWI and the new one may be more of a shoe fetishist. I kept my shoes on through the checkpoint this morning, though. It seems to be high heels or thicker soles that make you automatic secondary now at BWI.
I almost never use Dulles or National, so I can't offer a recent comparison. National can be a pain to fly into because everyone has to remain seated for the final 30 minutes of the flight. If someone stands up, they divert the plane!

Probably too many people getting up to the metal detector and not knowing what to do. READ THE SIGNS ALL OVER THE PLACE. They should make a stupid people lane so people like me who know what to do can get through.
I guess most people here would still be stuck on the stupid line.
