Sniffing shoes

Which is more likely to find contraband in shoes:

1) A Team of Trained Shoe Analysts?

2) A dog.

Which is the better use of taxpayer dollars?

I don't want to feel "secure". I want to be secure.

You will never be 100% secure on an aircraft, unless you board naked after a full body cavity search, and are not allowed carry-on or checked bags. Plus no maintanace to aircraft (including fuel) nor food service.

After you strip all the passengers, you'll have to suit them up in strait jackets and restraints. It only takes a few years of intensive training for someone to pose a security risk completely unarmed.

My goal isn't to be 100% secure. Unlike the TSA I know that isn't possible and I see no benefit in pretending otherwise. I just want the money being spent on security to be actually adding to security rather than detracting from it. It seems to me that they could replace at least 2 people at every shoe sniffing checkpoint with a well trained dog -- simultaneously improving security and either decreasing costs or redeploying people to higher value tasks.

The shoe sniffing checkpoints as you put it actually have walk though metal detectors and X-Ray machines so I guess they are metal sniffers and under wire bra finders.

A better technology would be the full body walk through scanners with the explosive trace detectors built in but the million dollar CTX machines took all the cash.

So did those thousands of useless "shoe runners" Admiral Loy the Lying Workfare proponent insisted on hiring. I guess in that clown's eye, you can put a price on safety.

The better technology is the Sentinel II explosives detection system + the WTMD. There is no reason to hit anyone with more radiation and project an image of them onto a screen.

Do your research. Irradiated food does not confer radiation onto the person consuming it.
