Passing Through Security with Catheter
Hello
I’ve very recently had a catheter installed with a leg bag.
I have asked my doctor for a letter but it may not be ready by the time I travel in a few days.
Any experiences of passing through security in the UK, USA and Dubai with a catheter?
Any guidance welcome.
Thanks

No personal experience with this. If it was me, I would do the following:
- contact your airline and ask their advice - they will have experience with this.
- contact the security checkpoint folks at the airports you will be traveling through and ask them what you should do.
Be sure to write down who you talked to, when, and what the specific advice was. Then, bring those notes with you when you get to your departure airports as early as possible, maybe an hour earlier than you would have otherwise. Based on US screening practices you should expect to be subjected to heightened scrutiny that comes with SSSS. It might be uncomfortable but it shouldn't be a major problem.

Although the poster may have already traveled, in the US the security process is mostly unchanged. Catheter bags are very common. You do not need to notify anyone in advance about your bag. If you go through a body scanning machine your bag will show up, please notify the officer about the location of your bag after your scan and they will do some simple additional tests that will not require you to expose the bag in any way.
