DXB transit
Hi, I searched "DBX transit" in the forum but did not find this answer re: new Qantas/Emirates codeshare. I am booking a flight LHR to Singapore, transiting in Dubai. If I am just changing planes in Terminal 3, will we pass through immigration or have to re-check our bags through customs? I have a Canadian passport and I know there have been issues with visas for the UAE (though this is apparently changing), but do I need a transit visa at all?
Transit time is so tight (1 hour 20 minutes) that I can't imagine making it if there is passport control. But I have missed enough connections that I want to know ahead of time if I'm going to be stranded in the airport.
Thank you.

Security is reasonably efficient and shouldn't take too long, but the airport is pretty huge. 1h20 seems a bit tight but a lot depends on how far apart your arrival and departure gates are. One of my flights into DXB landed at a remote station and we took a very extensive bus tour of the airport grounds before getting to the terminal, which would have created difficulties with a tight connection. Of course, if your segments are all on one ticket and there's a problem with the connection, QF/EK will get you on a later flight.
(The reason your search didn't work is that the airport code is DXB, not DBX.
You might also search the QF and EK fora for advice on DXB.)

No, if you are just connecting, you don't have to go through immigration or collect bags (provided of course that your bags were checked through), the UAE is not the US.
In DXB T3, you enter the arrivals stream, go through a security checkpoint and upstairs. http://www.dubaiairport.com/en/passe...203%20Maps.pdf (page 4)
Checkpoints are near EK transfer desks.

Thanks, mduell. I will have a confirmed onward ticket with a scheduled transit time much shorter than 24 hours, so unless some exceptionally long delay occurs, it does not look like I require a visa. Worst case scenario, TIMATIC indicates I could get a 96-hour transit visa on arrival.

I'm not sure what you mean.
TIMATIC (when corrected for missing punctuation around four words forming a hyperlink in the middle of the sentence) says:
"Visa required, except for Holders of confirmed onward tickets for a max. transit (For details, click here) time of 24 hours."
candyann has a confirmed onward ticket with a transit time of 1h20, so is exempt from the "visa required" part.
For my situation (Australian resident/citizen transiting UAE between Australia and Europe) TIMATIC had the same text as for Canada. And four weeks ago, on two transits through the country, not only did I not need a visa, but there was no point in the transit where anyone would have checked my passport or asked for a visa. Off the plane, into the terminal, through security, off to the lounge, on to another plane.
