Pumpkin Problems
OK. It seems like there are two concerns here.
First, can the pumpkin pass the vagaries of the TSA? Well, you grow pumpkins so your investment in a 20lb pumpkin can't be much, right? So it's not a big loss if said pumpkin gets chucked.(Punkin' chunkin' anyone?).
Second, you obviously have pumpkins in assorted shapes and sizes. Grab a couple and see what fits in your carryon or even a canvas tote bag.
Problem solved. Whoo-hoo!

best thread in a while...thanks for the giggle. I routinely bring strawberries that I have doctored up with a shot of vodka using an insulin syringe. A nice reward for myself after NOT kneeing a TSA in the groin after my de rigeur grope, AND I get a couple of servings of fruit as a bonus.... While the Nutella doesn't always make it through, the plain old strawberries DO!

Americans...
A lengthy discussion whether pumpkin is a weapon, and not a single person mentions the holy grail of comedy, the monty python's sketch (beware, monty python sketch):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piWCBOsJr-w
(so yes, pumpkin may be lethal)

If someone tells me how exactly to perform the injection and what volume to use, I will inject a fruit or veg this week and xray it and post pics. Heck, if we are slow, I will even CT it (basically a higher quality xray in a different plane) and then throw in an MRI.
What d'yall want, a pumpkin or a watermelon?
H
PS, it is my guess that on X-ray, you will not see liquid within the flesh of a watermelon, but that you would see loose liquid inside the pumpkin cavity, CT will probably show the difference in both and MR will easily detect the difference.

Time for a pumpkin bump
Family member wants to bring home a pie size pumpkin form MI as carryon. Google brought this thread to the top.
I have brought tens of pineapples home from Hawaii, 4 fit well in my roller carryon.
And I've also checked a watermelon to ADK (and half back home
) and I think it was carryon to BRW
with a watermelon too.

OK, this has been an amusing diversion, but I'm surprised no one has asked this question - WHY? Why would anyone go through all of this trouble to transport something they can easily buy at their destination for $2?
No wonder there is never any room in the overhead bins

Maybe it's a particularly neat pumpkin--unique color, shape, whatever.
When I worked in California, I had access to all manner of citrus, guavas, avocados, etc. that rarely made it to stores in the state, let alone elsewhere. Every time I went anywhere, I took a bag of fruit.
TSA never gave the fruit a second look, but they did like to poke at lemon trees when I carried those on.

. Not TSA I know, but same rule set I think.
