SATTSO - do you /really/ believe that we are a nation at risk for hundreds of thousands of incidents per year of people carrying WEI onto planes in their shoes? It doesn't happen anywhere ELSE in the world, so why would it happen here?

I note that you also did not respond to the question of what 'prohibited items' you see parents plant on their kids all the time. The only thing that the TSA is mandated to care about is WEI - how many times do you see WEI planted on children by their parents in order to get it through the checkpoints, and can you please point me to the myriad of public arrest information that must exist for this common happenstance?

One, besides supporting this pilot program, I have not stated my opinion regarding whether or not shoes should be taken off by passengers or not.

Two, I didn't respond to the question because I was gone and just returned. Question is now answered.

So, are the HHMDs being pulled out of storage?

They were never in storage. We still use HHMD, though its a rare event.

OK, I thought that with the last update to the screening process that the HHMDs were removed from the process and you had to use your hands if you had to clear something.

HHMD can only be used in specific instances. Pretty rare instances.

The stun gun one really upset me. The father had a baby in a carriage, and insist the child could not be removed, but he had to make his flight. Eventually he removed his child (took a long time, and police were involved). Under the blanket the baby was laying on was a stun gun... Sad, isn't it?

Would have been awful if the stun gun, um, accidentally went off into the father's groin, wouldn't it?

And as another FT member post eariler in the thread, these policies seem to work well, otherwise, where are the stories of TSOs demanding identification for infants and children?

Posts about the TSA demanding passenger identification of minors? They exist -- for example, posts about the TSA demanding identification of minors and then using that as a basis for engaging in additional screening of the bigoted sort against such minors.

Did anyone in TSA send you out to discuss and talk up upcoming RBS changes?

There will ALWAYS be people who violate rules in ANY organization that exist. I suspect that even where you work/worked there were employees who did whatever they wanted. However, as millions of children fly each year, what you talk about is a rare exception to the rule; it actually works fairly well.

But if you wonder if a TSO will argue with a parent that they belive the child is older than 12, the answer is "yes". There is NO system that could be perfect. As example, it was reported today that the Social Security Administration incorrectly reports people dead 1 out of 200 entries into their system. I think TSA does MUCH better than that concerning a childs age in the procedure we already have in place.

No. And as always, I take a chance of losing my job by talking about these things online. I have not post any SSI info, but what if this program doesn't work, and it isn't rolled out across the nation? How happy will TSA be with me for stiring the pot, so to speak?

Honestly? Taking you at your word, here's a valid question (from earlier). Why do you type "risked based" screening instead of "risk"(-)based screening? Are TSA management/management-retained contractors using "risked" in such a context?

Thanks for the answer. I don't see how it could be considered "Out There".
