Seeing Something and Saying Something on the DC Metro
Bomb scares, threats hit Metro about twice daily
One crazy woman and a 99.7% false positive rate shows the program is working. ^
It was not immediately clear how many — if any — of the 339 cases involved actual bombs or credible threats. Many suspicious packages tend to be forgotten belongings, no more harmful than the unrefrigerated ham sandwich left in the bag. But the agency has to take them all seriously.

I've recently claimed in this forum that Australia is reasonably sane in its reaction to possible terrorist activity. However, (in the interest of full disclosure) I'm disappointed to report that this morning I saw a "See something, Say something" poster at one station on the Sydney suburban rail network. It's not a station I pass often, and I haven't seen such a poster on my usual route.
If I could have seen a number (it was a few platforms away) I'd be tempted to call and say I saw a train. Oh, look, there's another one! And some people. Ooooo, look, a car! Now I see some buildings. More people. A MacDonald's. More cars...
Or "I saw something, but my mother taught me it wasn't polite to draw attention to people who are different. Hope that's okay. Kthxbi."
Seriously, I find the whole SS, SS thing a creepy idea with bad historical precedents.
