No 'opt-out' at TBIT?

A post over in the QFF forum has suggested that as of a couple of days ago, due to 'heightened security' all passengers must go through the nude-o-scopes, no 'opt-outs' at TBIT.

Anyone know anything about this?

Not allowing opt-outs would fly in the face of the TSA's policy which states that anyone can opt out. If that were to happen, there better be a STSO and/or a FSD nearby.

Other airlines use TBIT.

If there were no opt out I would think we would have heard it somewhere by now.

Mersk862, it hasn't stopped them before.

But I'll agree, I'd need to hear this confirmed before I really believe it.

That said, part of why I don't gamble with flying right now is incidents like the pee-in-your-seats-1-hour-before-landing-and-don't-even-read-the-SkyMall rule after the crotch bomber. Who's to say you get to your destination, have fun, and then upon returning back get hit in the face with some new draconian rule they just implemented. So now you have the choice, grin-and-bear-it or drive for hours or days with unscheduled time off work and a huge one-way rental car bill, and possibly a nonrefundable airline ticket.

But with all the self opt-outs through the WTMDs being a pressure release valve, if this did happen and become widespread, I think the TSA would be jackhammering their final nail in their own coffin. So in a way, I'm all for it.

I fly through TBIT often. I actually said some nice things about TSA at that specific location in the past but it has gone to hell over the last year. Still, for the most part they have tacitly allowed self opt-out since the radiation scanners were deployed. I have been directed to their radiation strip search scanners a number of times so far but have never been challenged 'yet' when I just kind of aimlessly wandered to a WTMD when I reached the end of the radiation line. Last time a month ago they did have a TSO selecting victims from the WTMD line and this represented a change but I gave her a silent "don't you dare select me or there will be trouble" dirty look and she passed me by and I went through the WTMD.

I'll be through TBIT again next week. I will opt out if I can't self opt out as usual and if I have to I will make a scene to make it worth my while if they inconvenience me. Unfortunately for them I am to shameless to be sexually humiliated into submission.

Have you (or anyone else reading this who's flown through TBIT recently) been able to continue to successfully self opt out?

If you're on QF, just go through security at T4 (so you can use the club or whatever) and take the bus over.

I'm sure it's just an example of a TSO making up their own rules that are contrary to TSA policy, either for convenience or to hassle a passenger. Nothing to see here -- move along.

If someone tells you that you cannot opt out, insist that they call a supervisor and a police officer over. If they tell you that no supervisor is available, call them a bleeping bleep bleep and see how fast a supervisor materializes.

I'm flying on IB - was actually hoping that TBIT would be easier than T4. (I was happy to read that self opt outs were happening at TBIT - hoping to hear more of these accounts).
