LAX international terminal.

Does the International terminal at LX have the new body scanners? If so, can these be avoided? Any tips how to avoid the new body scanners at LAX will be appreciated. Thank you.

I can't speak as to the international terminal at LAX having image machines but there is one very simple and guaranteed method to avoid the body scanners in the U.S*.....memorize the phrase "I opt out". You will receive an "enhanced pat down but you will not go thru the image machine.

*This may/may not apply to foreign airports as some (i.e. those in the U.K.) do not give you the option to opt-out where if you are selected and choose to opt-out, you won't be able to fly.

If you are referring to the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX, then yes they do have the scanning machines, but not for every lane. It is fairly easy to just choose a lane without the scanner once you have your ID checked.

i just went through lax's international terminal and yes they are using the image machine, they have one but route all traffic through it. at least thats how it was when i was there, just tell them youd prefer not to go through the machine and take whatever alternative they have. its a quick pat down, not a big deal like its made out to be.

like goalie said about foreign airports, very few use those imaging machines but pat downs take their place, you will probably be subjected to searches depending on your destination and complaining will get you nothing but a hard time from who ever it is that is searching you

Just fyi, not all international flights go into the international terminal (Tom Bradley International Terminal, or TBIT). United, for example, flies from Sydney to LAX into terminal 7. The terminal 6/7/8 complex serving United has the scanners. Avoiding them is a crapshoot. My last couple of times through the WMTD have been off and it was scanner or frisk.

Terminal 4 (AA) has international flights too - my husband said that the pornoscanners were off when he flew to London last month, he was VERY relieved!
