Question re: Nexus and Global Entry programs.
Hi, I have a few questions about the Nexus and Global Entry programs for Canada/US. I couldn't find these answers on their website, so I thought I may ask you. Now, I know just recently that Nexus members now have access to Global Entry benefits (just read on their website), but for now, let's assume they're separate programs.
I'm a Canadian citizen, and if I have a Nexus card, can I fly from Hong Kong to New York, say, and upon landing in NY, use my Nexus card to pass through US customs?
- Or it this only available strictly between Canada/US (must fly to/from Canada/US)?
- Or is this only available for Global Entry cardholders?
Same thing, but landing in Canada, say, flying from HK to Vancouver. Can I use my Nexus card in Vancouver through Canadian customs?
Because, if this is true, what would be the benefit of Global Entry if I can use Nexus to enter both Canada/US (Global Entry is only for US, no)?
Thanks,

My source at CBP has added to this that GE-only people are now allowed to skip to the crew lanes at pre-clearance airports in Canada, though they are not able to use the NEXUS kiosks.

The very active NEXUS information thread on the Aeroplan forum has confirmed, it appears, that Canadian NEXUS holders are now part of Global Entry. Some apparently need some extra fingerprints taken. That is a pretty awesome benefit and something my CBSA interviewer should be happy about (he made a comment after the interview saying that he would love to be able to use GE).

Here's a question for Canadian NEXUS members using the GlobalEntry kiosks: what do they stick in the GlobalEntry kiosk? Their Canadian passport or NEXUS card? Both have a MRZ, so I don't know which one would be tied to the correct database.

According to the same thread, as well as the machines themselves, it would be the passport. Have you used GE yet? The machine is built to use the MRZ of a passport.

Does anyone have a CBP link showing the that Canadians with NEXUS can indeed use GE machines? CBP just authorized Mexican nationals to sign up along with the prior approved Dutch (via FLUX) but it doesn't mention Canadians. Thanks, I'd likr to update some NEXUS travellers I consult with. Sounds like a logical deal overall.

I do know that my one source at CBP has said that the pre-clearance airports will now be taking GE people in the crew lanes. I don't know if that means they will be getting GE kiosks to go with the NEXUS kiosks. I prefer the NEXUS machines, but I like that you don't do a blue form when doing GE.
Would think they have been able to use them since the automatic NEXUS to GE approval started. They are American citizens after all.

As a NEXUS holder you can apply for FLUX but the approval is given by the Dutch only.
As I've picked up a new supplier and will spend a fair amount of time in Holland I'm going to look into this when I go next week.

The thread over on Aeroplan is invaluable. Several Canada-based NEXUS holders have said they are getting approvals without even applying. You should have your colleagues check their GOES accounts. I haven't seen a CBP link for anything other than the Privium/FLUX connection.

I'd love to get front of the line privies with my GE, let alone folks with NEXUS using the kiosks. I also like not doing a blue form!
So now this program is open to Mexicans, Canadians, Dutch, and US/LPRs.
Who will be next???? I have heard rumour Germans.

As of now, NEXUS holders have to use the Blue Form at YYZ. I have no idea if that is going to change now with GE. The front of the line/crew line bit will help a lot at YYZ, where the lines can get ridiculous.

Have any Nexus users on this forum been successful in using the Global Entry kiosks? I tried doing so the other day at Newark Airport and the kiosk wouldn't accept my passport. I then spoke to officers at the Global Entry Enrollment Center and they advised that there's currently no activation for Nexus users with Global Entry because the programs have yet to be linked. They also told me that 5 other Nexus users had come in that day asking the same question.

I got the following message on GOES, which appears to indicate that I'm automatically eligible to use the Global Entry kiosks. I'm just curious if Nexus members have been successful in using the kiosks or if there's some mix-up. The Newark officials claimed that there's currently a mix-up.
----
As a NEXUS member, you can now use the Global Entry kiosks located at the top 20 major U.S. international airports to enter the U.S. To use the Global Entry kiosks, you must use a valid machine readable passport. Do not use your NEXUS card in the kiosk, but you may wish to carry it with you. There is no additional cost to use Global Entry, and you may use it for the duration of your NEXUS membership. Additional information about Global Entry can be found at http://www.GlobalEntry.gov/. If you do not wish to use Global Entry kiosks, please disregard this message.
