See the Nexus Information Thread in the Aeroplan forum. There are a number of recent posts on this topic. The information you were given was incorrect. Some Nexus users have successfully used Global Entry. However, the CBP/CBSA staff on the front lines are not well prepared for the change and seem not to have all the information.

As for Green Cards (I hate semi-official acronyms and I grew up with them being called that), I'm not sure since I'm a citizen. I would guess that is true, as there is an MRZ (I'll use that one
