Perhaps this week they are performing quality control for Starbucks, insuring the product is still hot.... Maybe they should go back to playing with the trains.

Or maybe they are checking it is not too hot so we dont burn ourselves? Ooh I know - they are checking the coffee isnt so hot it could be used as a terroristic weapon.

OK, so if this happens during my next airport visit, does anyone know if you can opt out?

Seriously, can you just say, "I opt out" and ask them to go bother someone else?

Would that end in a body cavity search or LEO invervention?

Meanwhile, no one has answered this question.

There are some good ideas in this thread and in this other thread. As you can see, this nonsense has been going on for a while.

I really don't understand all the anti-TSA attitude on this forum. I would think that as some of the worlds most frequent flyers you would also be some of the TSA's greatest fans.

I would, if they were more like law enforcement officers and less like amusement ride operators.

If we want to be serious about security, we need TSA employees to be real law enforcement officers. Expensive? You bet. But one trained and experienced LEO is better than 20 rent-a-cop TSA screeners.

Never had to deal with an MCO checkpoint but they made me get off my plane on a stopover a few weeks ago...We went up the jetway, showed our ID and turned back around. What a joke

Just went through an enhanced pat down - now in tears

Sitting in the gate area at TPA and the TSA is checking bags as people queue for boarding.

I am shaking from the enhanced pat down experience I just went through. I do not want them near me again. I am going to try to decline if they ask to search me again. After all - they just did a VERY thorough search on me at the security screening area...

robriggen, I am sorry for your experience. I wish that wasn't the situation for your first post. Welcome to FlyerTalk.

welcome to FT.

They gave you the extended patdown at the gate? after you cleared security? Could you have declined?

Why do they call it "the sterile area"?

Calling it the "sterile area" reinforces the lie that the TSA has any control over what gets into that area.

As long as that LEO didn't start out as a TSA Airport Security Screener - the corruption is endemic to the TSA, and there's not a single TSA employee I'd trust to step up as an actual LEO.

But gate searches undermine the illusion, right?

They claim the randomness is a deterrent.

I believe the randomness reflects the utter incompetence of the entire organization.

They are "gambling" with our security and calls it a deterrent. What a joke. Next time I see TSA agents harassing a 90-year old, the disabled, or give a baby strip search I will try to remember that "randomness is a deterrent"
