Since I don't live in Texas, could someone explain what CHL stands for?

Irish explain the CHL. What is important though is that the Texas Department of Public Safety issues both the DL and the CHL.

They both have the exact same information on them including picture. In fact the picture on the CHL is a Color Passport Photo while the one on the DL is a poorer quality image taken when you apply for the DL.

Both have Micro-Printing and embedded security features.

The one difference between the two that I see as important is that the CHL has the persons DL# on it, while the DL does not have the person CHL# imprinted.

My reading of the TSA guidelines clearly demonstrates that either meets the requirements to prove ones identity.

I had a TSO ask me for my drivers license when I showed him my passport.

I just checked at the Air New Zealand counter at LAX for my flight to Fiji. Since I already had my passport out, I figured to just use it when going through security.

The TSO said, "This is America. You do not need a passport to go through security. Do you have your drivers license?"

Of course, I did show him my drivers license. But the next time I may test the waters...

He's an idiot. I routinely come through T4 at LAX with a passport.

He's as much of an idiot as the one that harassed one of the participants on this board over his Nexus card, and as much of an idiot that insisted that I had to show TSA my passport if I had an international boarding pass.

As I suspected the TSA can NOT tell the difference between a fake and a real ID.

This is no surprise. The TSA at MSN doesn't know the difference between a state issued drivers license and one issued by another country. Accidentally showed the TSO my Cayman Islands DL. She stated, in an authoritative voice, that the Cayman Islands were part of the USVI. Idiot.

Now that's hilarious. Were you able to keep a straight face when she said that?

Honestly, did you expect anything less out of those winners?

OP Dont feel bad the brain trust in the mid A terminal gates isnt much better. They wouldnt accept my HHS ID (which has CBC and Clearences to get it) only DL. The smurf didnt like it when i told him and his 2 striper that they were both idiots and needed to be retrained, on there own SOP and ID rules.

The two stripers reaction was priceless especially with the "How do you know what the TDC and SOP is"; i had to supress laughing at him, i just wish I had a copy of the leaked SOP that would have been a topper.

They originally didn't accept the active duty ID cards until Kippie was publicly shamed into doing so. I initially used my retired ID and then changed my mind because it contains my full SSN and I didn't want to be subjected to meaningless drivel thanking me for my service to our country.

I would have responded, that yes this is America and my drivers license is exactly that, and that I am about to be a passenger on an airplane, not drive my car to Fiji.

I really have my doubts if they actually understand why they are checking IDs, not that I believe it makes anyone safer, but since TSA believes this, then maybe they need to clue the clueless on exactly the whys and whats of checking IDs.
