Now that British passports are a hot subject ...
I am really wondering when global ID will start to be pushed.

How come there aren't scads of counterfeit boarding passes? I've taken to checking in online and printing the pass on my home computer. Seems like it would be child's play to counterfeit something like that. If that's all that's necessary in a sterile area, it would seem like a weak link. I'm kind of surprised there isn't work being done on some common form of international ID that is hard or impossible to forge (though "imipossible to forge"is probably one of those falsely comforting phrases). Now that British passports are a hot subject, having been used in an assassination, I am really wondering when global ID will start to be pushed. The fact is that there were two copies of all those passports and only after the killing did they discover it was so.
Anybody against the idea?

So what?
You have to go through the same screening as people with legitimate BPs. Passing screening is what determines entrance to the secure area, not the ownership of a BP.
What's the difference between buying a cheap ticket and going through with a legitimate BP when you don't intend to travel and going through with a fake BP?
Even if you brought in a super-douper everyone has to show ID at security, how would that stop someone who simply bought a cheap ticket gaining entrance to the secure area? The answer is it doesn't - it just means they have to spend a bit more cash. Now, I know we are in recession and all that, but it does seem that terrorists are not having to tighten their belts to that extent

Lots of us do. Home-printed BPs have bar codes which are scanned at the check. Presumably you would need to print the BP multiple times to get anywhere near your scenario, except only the first would be scanned successfully.I'm sure you meant to say 'fake British and other passports ...So who do you suggest would issue such documents? It's a non-starter.

If one enters the "sterile area", one has been screened. There is no need to verify anyone's identity as identity is not security.
