OR, everyone holds up a picket sign with a cartoon character of a smurf on it. A picket sign of an overripe blueberry might do the trick too.

The Devil Hates to Be Mocked

When he is approximately three aisles away, heading towards the back of the plane, say in a clear, matter-of-fact voice to no one in particular, "Well, the toilet cleaner's late".

Excellent idea. Out of an abundance of caution it would be important to dispatch an F-16 escort to accompany this process as well.

Voice of Officer Barbrady loud enough for everyone to hear:

Hmmm, smurf shirt blue vs airline toilet chemical blue?

How dare you disparage the honorable toilet cleaner by comparing him or her to such an individual!

I like my toilets clean and my Communists on another continent.

Nice to know no one on this site jumps the gun and draws conclusions without knowingall the facts....

Several reasons I have gone onto a plane just before it departs:

1. People have asked to me to, as the person they dropped off left somethig important behind (last time I did this was because a woman asked me to bring to her husband some papers he had left in the car, and he didn't want to leave the plane because he was afraid it would take off without him).

2. Someone leaves something at the checkpoint, and I can visually identify the person, and know what gate area they went to, so I check multiple planes as they board to get the item returned. Yes, I have done this a handful of times, and as far as the people on some flights are concerned all they see is a TSO entering the plane, looking around and leaving.

Complain if you want, but those are possible reasons as to why a TSO might board a plane as described.

and if that was the reason I saw a TSO on the plane, I'd thank him or her. When you compare those rare occurrences with the theater of a group of smurfs eyeballing passengers at the gate, the noble purpose you suggest seems to fade away quickly.

The OP did say that the TSA employee was giving everyone The Stare.

While it might be to jog said employee's memory for return of a lost item, it is more likely yet another demonstration of The TSA: For Joke or Novelty Purposes Only - Not To Be Confused With Real Security.

And when I have sought out pax to return property I had to give everyone the "stare". So what?

Why did you have to do that?

When I return an item that someone lost, I don't stare down the room or corridor like some Macho Man Wannabee...
