Global calling cards?

Any ideas for a good, inexpensive calling card to use when calling back to the USA from abroad? AT&T Direct Service seems rather expensive.

Yes, go to Costco (failing that Sam's Club or Wal*Mart) and get a prepaid calling card. Make sure it can be used in the country your going to.

I don't have the math in the top of my head, but back when I did the calculations, it was a superior value.

An MCI WorldPhone card linked to a traditional long distance account with a good international plan has very attractive rates.

I went on to use GlobalCall (www.global-call.net) after finding AT&T Universal (or rather Citicorp) had raised rates to $2+ for domestic calls. Not the cheapest but better than AT&T. Their rates from the U.S. is quite good if you don't use a pay phone.

3rd country calls (e.g., Germany - Canada) would run $1 / min on average.

Also have 800 access numbers from a lot of countries.

Don't like their $1.49 monthly service charge.

I find that you are better off to buy a prepaid card in each country you are in.
