ozstamps and I have just booked a ticket to go to Rio for NYE. There is a mention on this in Community in case anyone else will be around then! -

We both have lots of United and Qantas miles. Checked UA website and the only way using UA miles for free domestic travel is "blacked out" on Varig for December 15-31, so that counts us out there. We arrive Rio Dec 23 11 am from USA, and plan to fly somewhere interesting to spend Xmas, maybe Manaus (?) and then be back in Rio about 29th for NYE.

Anyway, if someone has miles or coupons etc that allows travel at this time, lets *talk* about it! I am sure we can figure something out to everyone's advantage. We will both be top level United 1K by then, so maybe Varig will look after us nicely too?

Any any FT'er in Brazil lets meet up! We had a nice dinner in SFO and Maine a few weeks back and love meeting new folks all over the globe:

Varig's Smiles website clearly states that it's possible to use miles either under Smiles Anyday Tickets at a very expensive rate. Toxa is correct is checking with Varig.

Personally I'm still "burning" my miles that are from 2000 and allow upgrades from any class to Business. (Miles accrued this year require more miles and only valid for a few classes).

Being said this, if I am already using my 2001 miles I'll be more than glad to talk to you again.

PB9997 - sounds like an unusual flier plan they have! If you or anyone can help with tickets to Manaus etc late December, like to hear from you.

We have been too busy travelling to look into the L class tickets, and better move on it soon I guess if they sell fast? Just back today from a 22,000 mile round trip to Florida, where we had dinner with MrKey. I see there is a NYE or therabouts gathering in the making for Copacabana -
