diff between MatMid and Loyal

I'm new to looking at ElAl, I was going through their website, and noticed there are 2 different types of FF programs..
As far as I could tell, Matmid just costs a little more to join, but the benefits are far better, half as many points, elite levels, etc.

what's the point of this or am I missing something?

In a nutshell, Matmid is awesome - really great for weekly commuters - but is not worthwhile for anyone who travels transatlantic less than 4 times a year - mostly because your points expire after 12 months (though they can still be used for upgrading for 2 years after that).

But then again, El Al is begining to screw around by removing seats from F (thus fewer upgrades for Matmid PL's) AND they are also now overbooking C which means upgrading is becoming impossible.

You can use American Express points to transfer to El Al Matmid to get an El Al award.
