Searching on Aeroplan site I see a few J seats on ET flights from ADD to Vienna, but the flights from ADD to YYZ or EWR are not there at 330 days out. For North Americans this is the best way to get back from Tanzania. Before the UA snafu these 2 flights were available every day.

Looks like ET has severely limited their J awards with UA miles for flights to North America cities.

The UA displayed availability for the YYZ flights at least was phantom. ET never had those seats available, even though UA was displaying them every day. I've never seen Business Class awards actually available on the YYZ flight.

That said, there are almost always seats available to LHR and FRA, from where you can get plenty of connecting options back to North America.

Problem with that is trying to get a J seat on UA metal. I can see some ET J availability on random dates to LHR and FRA but then nothing in J back to the US. No way I'd fly that portion of an award in coach.

Was the ET J for EWR ever really available or was that phantom also?

Not sure about EWR as its a relatively recent route, but there has definitely been business class availability to LAX and IAD in the past.

Thumbs down UA has never fixed the ET glitch

The seats are still available from other *A partners however.
It is now almost 3 months later and the glitch has never been fixed. Seems to be permanent that you can no longer see or use the UA award calendar to book award flights on ET using UA miles online. You must use another airline web site to search for the seats and then call UA to book them. Very frustrating as this makes the search so much more difficult.

Looks like ET awards are once again available via the United website.

Too late for me. I easily found and booked 2 J seats to JRO on TK via the UA web site. I did not have to call in and talk to anyone. ET flight times would have been better but Grabbed what I could when the seats became award seats available.
