La Quinta Returns changes/devaluations

La Quinta announced today in an email that there were two new redemption tiers for their hotels. There is a new tier that is 15k points and a new tier that is 18k points when previously hotels topped at 11k/night for redemption with very few blackouts for the elite members.

This killed a number of very good redemption deals in Scottsdale, Steamboat Springs (which I believe was previously 8k a night), NYC, and others.

Our company has a very good corporate rate at LQ and the properties are slowly improving. But this is a bummer.

I'm gold level with La Quinta, but I totally missed this when it was announced. I discovered the new points for redemption requirements yesterday when I attempted to book the Manhattan property for a free nite. Frankly, raising the redemption from 11,000 to 18,000 points (almost a 70% increase!) is such a huge devaluation of the program that I don't know that I want to continue accruing points with La Quinta.

Looked around to try to burn some points in Phoenix area today and most of the properties on the east side of town were up to 11k, 15k, or 18k. I too will not be earning LQ points next year, but that's mostly because there's not a decent property in the areas I will be most frequently traveling to in Eastern IA. The Choice properties here are much nicer.

Not sure what I'll do with my 38k points now. I'm sure I'll find something.

Another devaluation has taken place, now some properties are 24,000 points. I continue to stay at La Quinta, mainly due to traveling often with my dog. The chain is very pet friendly, with no fees or hassles. But 24,000 points for 1 night at La Quinta Manhattan is ludicrous...

for the pet policy, not the points

I don't think much of the LQ rewards program, however I love the "pets stay free" policy" and will continue to stay with LQ because of it. In '08 and '09 I made status level with Marriott, but as they have skyrocketed their pet fees to $125 for a single night stay, more 50% higher than the room rate I was paying, it doesn't make sense for us to stay with them when we travel with the cats. Made Gold with LQ already this year, and got a nice free upgrade on our last stay.
