Fiji Airways A350-900 routes

My recall is Fiji Air currently has two A350-900's. Deployed on NAN-LAX and NAN-SYD-AKL.

Beginning Oct 1st, AA's reservation system shows A350-900s from NAN on three direct North American routes, adding NAN-SFO and NAN-YVR.

Does anyone know, is this real? Is Fiji Air acquiring new A350-900s for these routes?

Or is it likely an advertising strategy, place holding flights further out with a later switch?

I believe FJ is operating the A350 on the SFO-NAN route T/Th and the YVR-NAN Mon/Fri.

I’m scheduled to fly NAN > SFO in November. Today I received a schedule change notification. Thrilled to see my flight is now showing the A359 which represents a significant improvement over the A332 in business class.

According to Expert Flyer, the change in aircraft occurs October 3 onwards. NAN > SFO frequency is Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays.

I've been looking at some routes, showing SFO-NAN-AKL, both segments in A350 according to Google Flights.

The SFO-NAN-AKL has a 3-4 hour connection. But the AKL-NAN-SFO is over a 6-hour connection!

Still they're vastly undercutting most other carriers, UA and NZ namely.

Apparently nothing linking to Australia from NAN though. Sounds like a relatively limited fleet so they chose to focus on AKL for North American flyers?

There are some good reviews of their A350 business class product.

I wonder if there are good lounges at NAN for UA or Star Alliance elites? Have to have some comfort for 6 hours, though maybe if there are left-luggage facilities at NAN, maybe leaving the airport for a couple of hours may be worth it?

After I'd posted this, I came across an article confirming the addition of the A350-900's to the NAN - SFO/YVR routes. The acquisition was slated to be completed by the end of 3rd quarter '23. I'm not certain how reliable the dates will be and would be wary of counting on the delivery dates to hold for the first few weeks/months.

I was comfortable grabbing up AA J award flights to/from NAN in February-March 2024 though. Planning five days in Fiji followed by another award flight NAN-SYD. Spend 2-3 weeks Down Under. Also booked award tickets back in reverse, just to have a sure way to get back. Will stop in NAN and visit a different Fiji island for a few days, if that ends up the best option. And plenty of time in the interim to continue to stalk for direct SYD-LAX or AKL-LAX awards back to LAX.

Hoping the A350-900's actually happen on SFO and YVR. Counting on them or will likely not make the Trip. Recently Fiji Airways seems to have eliminated new award availability in J to/from LAX-NAN (at least on AA). Awards have been limited to the less desirable hard products on the SFO/YVR routes. 2024 availability has dried up quickly on the new A350-900's routes also. Not sure if that's because savvy flyers have gotten wind of it or just the natural search for flights in the southern hemisphere summer. There's been no discussion of the new A350-900 development on any of blogs I occasionally take a look at.

It's surprising there's scarcity all the way through to SYD on paid Fiji tickets. Usually, it's ample and quite reasonably priced. Even partner award availability is fairly easy to find if booked far enough in advance.

Anyone know if row 11A or 12K offer additional legroom on the Fiji A350s? I know some airlines do offer a slightly wider foot area in the first row, but I cant find any information about the first row on Fiji.

Can't answer the legroom question, but the other seats are pretty decent in this area. On the K side, the bathroom is right next to the seat, on the A side, it's the other side of the galley near the cockpit door. (I've seen reports of 3 bathrooms, but I could see only 2). In both cases, there's a curtain to navigate that causes passengers to pause and flap around in both directions. So A is much better than K, but the location of both is poor compared to non-first row seats. The middle seats in the front row are possibly the worst business seats on the plane due to the curtains and the way the aisle jogs towards the outside of the plane as you exit the galley area, so there is no privacy in the center seats

To piggy back on this question - does anyone know if the difference between 332 and 333 seats is material or if both are angle-flat?

Just for datapoint, FJ will deploy A350-900 on their HKG-NAN routes on 25 Aug 2024 only.

Interesting to see A350-900 deploy for such a long routes to Asia, usually only to US, CMIIW.

FJ Filed Request for NAN-DFW Flights via A350-900

The NAN-DFW flights would be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, but they have not announced departure and arrival times. If the request gets approved, Fiji will be moved to the top of my list again. From the Dallas/Ft Worth area, visiting one of its islands would only require one connection.

Looking at dates in late May, DFW-NAN are $1253-$2163 Y & $6990-$7042 J depending on the domestic connection. Hopefully, the nonstop flights will be within this price range.

Fiji Airways last week filed operational schedule for its planned Nadi – Dallas/Ft. Worth route, however only two flights are filed in early-June 2024. The airline tentatively lists A350-900XWB service on 03JUN25 and 07JUN25, although this remains likely to change.

Not sure if you've seen it but the flights are now live on the website and considerably cheaper than the routes through SFO/LAX.
