That should be the case. I wouldn't be against the "I Voted" icon being on by default and we have to go and turn it off. But the option should be available. I voted last year - my first year eligible - with no need to see these icons.

To be honest since I'm hardly on these paticular forums I no idea what this "I voted" meant on the posts I was seeing so started searching found it & voted for me no problem one way or the other on it.

There is no icon under my name

because I have decided to wait until the last day to vote.

I read the platforms of all of the candidates; but as a result of candidates posts on subjects here in the ORP forum, I have changed my tentative selection both positively and negatively.

I do not regard this icon as "silly". I'm happy that my participation in this election may be noted.

An excellent suggestion.

Another good suggestion.

Is there something shameful about admitting that you cast a secret ballot in an election? Sheesh.......

I believe that in the USA, Canada and other "democratic" countries, your date of birth (join date in FT), home town, programs you belong to and the number of times you opened your mouth (post count in FT) are not a matter of public scrutiny but yet this has not prevented you from voluntarily giving away this data and post more than 12,000 times on FT. IMHO, the "I voted" sign is a badge of honor and nothing else you might try to make it.

I have an issue with the icon for another reason, it is allowing some candidates a way to target campaigning. I received a PM (the second from one candidate) in the last two days that started wtih "I see you have not voted".

I had already discussed the PM issue with Randay (when I got the first pm from this candidate) and was cool with this being addressed next year, but was re-annoyed by it all, when I was "targetted" because I didnt yet have the icon.

It is no ones business if I have voted or not and I dont appreciate the extra pressure tactics of some candidates who are trolling to see who has the icon and who doesnt.

Randy, please reconsider this for next year.

I raised the question about electioneering in another ORP thread. I really don't appreciate the candidates not respecting TB Guidelines.

Unfortunately, I am not a "victim" of the 2-wave PM "attacks." I believe your thoughts on this PM "tactics" from TB candidate/s will be a perfect first-hand POV, if you don't mind share your 2 cents in that thread. Thank you!

I freely chose to disclose these facts to the FT community.

I don't need badges of honour to entice me to vote....and the icon is an invasion of my privacy if I choose to vote since this avatar is a default.

Randy already knows my POV, as I PM'd him the first time to ask if this was against TOS and he gave me the same explanation he posted in that thread, that the rule came post election.

What my wonderment on all this is, is if this wasnt someone campaigning, but just someone PM'ing large numbers of people, if that would be allowed (my guess is no).

Oh well, in the end I will manage this with my vote. The candidate in question would have had my vote before the second PM, but will not now.

Having received "vote for me" PMs both before and after I voted, I wish more candidates took care to check whether people being sent the PM have voted.

Pretty much the same for me, I searched to see what we were voting for and had it not been for the icon I would not have known. With that said, I am glad to have had the opportunity - I voted!

For this very reason, I regret that I cannot vote in this election. I consider the fact that I voted or not voted part of the great privilege of participating in a democratic process.
One of us is confused as to the meaning of secret ballot. I was under the impression it means that a person's choices are kept secret or confidential, not that the act of voting itself is kept secret.

Fwiw when I vote in any US election (be it county, district, state, or national) I am given an "I Voted" sticker that I wear all day long. Although as Randy has already pointed out, U.S. election law really has nothing to do with FT elections.

Wouldn't any change of selection always be both positive and negative? (It would be positive for the new selection, but negative for the discarded candidate.)

Selection of eligible (aka unbadged) targets of electioneering, rather than spamming all contacts, would be a preferable action within the spirirt of fairness.

Thre's no loss to a candidate (or a proxy) spamming, if they hit badged people, but it would annoy me, as it has some people who
have posted above.

Recent experience on FT (re. the rollout of many changes and the consequences of the changes being gamed) has been very discouraging, so I am hoping for some forthright and effective representatives, to represent me and others who visit FT very frequently.

It will be interesting to see if there is a correlation between emails/PM electioneering and the actual votes.
