Pop-up advertising on Flyertalk
I'm not sure if this would be the appropriate place to bring this up, but here goes.
I'm wondering why Flyertalk has implemented pop up advertisements for each page you load on the site. I often right-click and open in new window multiple threads, which results in an equal number of identical pop ups for a site called Reunion.com. I'm suggesting that advertising be kept in the sidebars and header and footer of the pages. I understand that this is not possible sometimes for financial reasons - but even one pop up would be preferred to twenty. I could disable them, but then I could not recieve PMs in a new window. Just a suggestion! |
For an upgrade to "Premium", you can avoid the advertising. :)
This is more of a Suggestion than a Talkboard Topic. I'm sure it will be moved to the appropriate forum. |
I am going to send this to the Only Randy Petersen Forum because our benevolent leader has ultimate decision rights for advertising.
Of course, he might outsource those decisions..... :) |
Firefox + ....... plus is the answer you're looking for ;)

I should really go the Firefox route, but IE is so ingrained into me... |

I use IE with McAfee & Earthlink Pop-Up Blockers. When I re-login after dumping my cookies, Earthlink shuts down the Jump to Forum feature, so I use Ctrl to override. That's when I get the Reunion.com poop-up!

I have the premium service -- and for $12 a year (which includes an online subscription to Inside Flyer magazine) I consider it a very good bargain.
I especially appreciated it today when I was using a public computer. Until I could log in, there was an American Express pop up that kept getting in my way. I would close it and it would pop up again, blocking my log in attempt. After a few minutes, however, it decided to go away long enough for me to log in and I then enjoyed the same ad-free FlyerTalk that I have at home. |
This is a perfectly appropriate place to bring this up and thanks for the question.
This is something that can certainly be looked in to. With the purchase of FlyerTalk by Internet Brands, those types of advertising decisions have been assumed by Internet Brands and I'm not sure what they have allowed or not allowed into the system as none of my team is involved in that any longer. What I can do is ask about these types of ads so that you and others interested will know what the current view and operating decision is. Thanks again for the question and as soon as i have an answer i'll pass it along. R.

This pop up ads are really annoyingn!!!! We should immediatly stop this. It makes it so uncomfortable!
|
Yep - have to agree absolutely hate the pop ups - or in this case 'pop overs' as they get in the way of everything.
|
Totally agree! It gets annoying after a while.

The "pop-overs" are ruining my Flyertalk experience at the moment. And yes, i know about the premium service, but feel this kind of anonymous internet discussion board is best served by giving own input. I don't mind the current advertising on the pages themselves.
