What's the point of ORP with 90% of threads locked?

A simple question meant without rancour or animus. I appreciated this forum in it's previous incarnations and was grateful to see it reopened, but in all honesty is there much of a point if most of the threads are locked? I can appreciate the founder and forum namesake is a very busy person and applaud his hands-on passion for both this community and FFing in general, but with all due respect is there much point to a forum with almost nothing but muted conversations?

Equally without rancour or animus: Or, give up the charade and make it read only.

Reviewing the forum title, Only Randy Peterson maybe the intent really is, ask Randy a question and he will answer, as opposed to ask Randy a question, so that everybody can weigh in on what Randy should/would/could say. Of course, this is just me weighing in with what Randy should/would/could say.

Randy has commented that he doesn't really care for that fact. He'd prefer to answer the question.
Sorry for offering my opinion Boss).

I believe that Randy closes the thread; because the question was asked and answered. And you know what will happen if Randy doesn't close the thread?? It will go on and on (and on).

And that would be bad because?

Seriously, one of the things that distinguishes FT from many other boards is that the membership is allowed to express their opinions on how the board should be run. We all know it isn't a democracy, but we feel listened to, not by some low-level functionary, but by the big kahuna himself. He will not always agree with us, but he listens and considers.

Having said that, I don't spend every waking moment at ORP, so normally a question arises and the thread gets locked before I get a chance to weigh in. Now, you might say that me adding my opinion to the discussion won't do much to advance it (and often, you would be right), but it does make me feel better about FT and my participation here. I guess I would turn the question around - what would it hurt to leave the discussion open?

Seems like we need another forum to solve this problem. I kind of agree that it would be nice to have this board be a place where only Randy answers questions (its intent) but it isn't happening because this is the ONLY place where it is allowable to discuss FT policy. Seems like there needs to be a place for that, where members could have these kinds of interactions, but not at the expense of people asking Randy a question.

Despite the irony, this thread is locked, pending Randy's review.
