He had it turned off for himself (which was a very good option for those who disliked the rep. feature) anyway. He prevented himself from getting a BLING from me for his helpful posts in the UA forum.
I guess that way less than 1% of FT members disliked the reputation feature which had good requirements to be met before one could use it. Just 5% of the FT members used it anyway I would say. And the vast majority did never care and does not even visit ORP to read all the complaints poor Randy has to deal with.
Why has a great feature/tool to be been turned off, if just a tiny fraction of FT members disapprove with it ???

And where did the 1% figure come from? Please enlighten me.

What difference does it make if the original pupose of the rep feature was not meant for enjoyment or community building. If it turned out that it was enjoyable and that it did build community (despite the misuse by a small group), why not keep it? It is apparent by the huge growth in traffic and the huge volume of posts, that most people loved it.
I know that most of my "blings" were on posts not in the ORP forum. When I saw a nice post, I would "bling" it just as a quick way of saying, "You brightened my day, so I would like to brighten yours."
If the offenders are dealt with, and guidlines are established, this could still be a fabulous tool.

For the pleasure the majority enjoyed (assuming it is in fact a majority & I'll go with your assessment), it wasn't worth the headaches the minority inflicted.

Now not even I am going to say that is due to "reputation", (which I hope refutes your equally rubbery claim!) but it was an interesting post I saw today that had this link.
If you are simply talking about the large number of posts in this Forum, I am not at all sure you could claim "most" of them loved the feature - even if you narrow all members down to one vote and sort their views - for or against.

But then again, the data does show the fact that FT was down for those two weeks, and when you consider the fact that it is just averaging the numbers, they do make sense.
Also, traffic is going to be down with all the new features, my favorite, subscriptions ^
I can only go and see what I want, get alerted on the threads I want, and the New Posts is awesome.
More efficient browsing, less traffic.
If anything, reputation generated more traffic, as you can see in the "views" column

P.S.
I respect ScottC's point and Randy's as well, but you could have left http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=318519 open!!!
^ I actually was the first one to ask questions about the reputation in OMNI on day 1 of the new software and ScottC also closed this thread.
If my threads get closed after three posts, then I better leave this online community.

I suspect only a very small % of FT'ers use that but it will grow once folks discover it.

^ I recall ScottC was pretty keen on it to start with, and seems to have markedly changed his view, based on the link you just give, and says this today:

No need to speculate........... why not just start a poll..????
I think the final poll would be something like 85% in favor vs. 15% against this feature.

I hope that 'reputation' will come back - and you are on my list for a 'bling'...
