Instead, they see the "chicklets" as just something else to compete for and collect, and shamelessly plead for points, or send PMs offering to "bling" you if you'll bling them, or work out daisy-chain "mutual admiration societies" merrily blinging each other.

And then others use it to settle old (and sometimes imagined) scores. I tell you, sometimes around here it looks like the Balkans!

On e-Bay, (a) you have to "pay to play" in that you can only provide comments if you were the buyer (or seller) in the transaction; no gratuitous snipes allowed; and (b) everyone can read the feedback and decide for him/herself whether (for instance) "sending a day late" is a legitimate grounds for a negative. Perhaps something like that would work here, if the "reputation" was intended (solely?) to improve the Coupon Connection.

Edited to add: If what one is looking for is a way to provide private feedback to a particular poster, the Private Message function does that, and further has the advantage of not being limited to three "hits" per day. You can use it to "spread" all the love you want!

Joh emailed me tonight to tell me she had received 3 feedback comments on her profile before Randy turned the sunlight on.

She has okayed me to post this on her behalf.

Red dot. OZ Fest 2004 Apr 5, 04 7:23 am SMessier
Red dot. OZ Fest 2004 Apr 4, 04 2:15 pm FewMiles
Green dot. OZ Fest 2004 Apr 4, 04 1:52 pm Punki We will miss you soooooo much. Punki

Fascinating. Randy and Admin can of course confirm this.

Joh has AFAIK never posted anything negative about the first two COWARDS.

On or off board.

They 'dinged' her in the period they felt their identities would never be revealed. Clearly to get back at me.

NEITHER coward on April 4 had even posted to that thread they dinged her for.

Her crime? Spending 100 unpaid hours on organising a FT get together.

Both these cowards (of course) and the others in their destructive little clique/cabal (which includes at least 3 rogue Moderators) also posted negatives also to another user's account I refer to in this forum, and used the name of another FT'er in their posts.

Joh spent TEN hours this weekend alone on 'OzFest 2004'. Joh does not have one mean bone in her body.

These _ _ _ _ _ have never contributed one minute in their lives to a FT event AFAIK.

Go figger.

Randy - if you read this please keep these cowards actions in mind.

If you think allowing yahoos like this to abuse "reputation" is a positive in any way for FT you of course have the final word.

Both, by their ongoing actions over a long period are IMHO a dangerous and malicious cancer on FlyerTalk.

I'd be delighted if either has the backbone to respond here to all their malicious actions during April re "reputation".

At least one of the individuals who red dotted Joh red dotted me as well in the exact same manner. That person ALSO red dotted several other moderators... including a few that you believe to be a part of this "cabal". I do not know and have never met or interacted with the individual on that list above who handed out so many red dots... and to my knowledge, neither do any of the others who also have recieved their only (or one of their only) red dot from this individual. I think that linking that individual to the actions of the moderator corp is not logical based on their actions recently with the reputation system.

(I have met the other two individuals above... so it wouldn't be too hard for someone with a search function to see which person is involved... .)

The other two individuals you mention have seemed (in my opinion) to hand out a LOT of green dots. I like green dots, don't you?

I agree with you 100% that red dots handed out for no reason other than disliking people is silly and petty.

I also received a red dot from one of the three people mentioned above. I received the red dot before I became a moderator. I also have never met any of the three people mentioned above and still cannot understand why I received the red dot.

I do say, however, that calling someone a Coward - in my opinion - is not appropriate and could be close to a TOS violation. Some could argue having multiple handles is just as wrong as not signing your name to a post... I would say more wrong... since it is against the TOS.

So, I would ask that the word coward be edited from the thread above. (I tried to send a private message but OZstamps apparently has that feature disabled).

Randy,

PLEASE turn reputation back on!

I know it appears that there is widespread sentiment against the feature, but it is really just a small load MINORITY.

I prefer having the reps continue, but can live if they don't.

What I don't like is having them turned off because a few children threw temper tantrums.

Seems like we've got a hum-dinger

It was turned off around 8:30am PST today, and just when I had reached 3 green boxes

SMessier dinged me about a month ago. That is his or her right. We don't have to have interaction with someone to ding him. If you don't like what he has written you are free to ding.

(At least you WERE free to ding. Hopefully, you will be again.)

Please, let's not start listing who we got dings from.

Oh I really don't give a care about the dings. As I have stated earlier, I will NEVER ding anyone. If I disagree with someone I will post my thoughts on that appropriate thread. A ding is not my style.

I just find it interesting that someone whom we have never interacted with has dinged so many people for no reason.

I respect but disagree with the decision to turn off reputation.

It was getting to be pretty fun to pass out blings to nice flyertalkers...
