I honestly hope for your own sake that you didn't mean it.
If it's a comment about a post I've made, challenging the validity of my thoughts or thought process, then that's one thing. And I'm always willing to consider other people's opinions/views on issues. There are many people here at FT whose opinions on airline travel/FF programs/Hotel programs I respect. However, when it comes to the snippy gossip comments that can and are made by other FTers...nope! That's where I meant that there are very few here who know me well enough...very few people here know what makes me "tick" and what really makes me who I am or are in a position to really comment on or make judgement calls about my character.

(edited to add) It's one thing for someone to disagree with my post for ANY reason, and I support that others can & will disagree with my opinions. But for me to worry about that person's "ding" affecting my actual "reputation" just seems needless to me. Likewise, just because I disagree with someone's post and may or may not ding them for it, doesn't mean it affects what/how I (or others) view that person or "who" they really are.

I predict that come Monday, Randy's inbox will be full of people complaining about dings. I'll be able to read the dings that I get for posting the following, but:

If it's possible to turn reputation off in all forums but Coupon Connection, it should be done. Else, it should be turned off completely to keep nasty infighting (and the resultant waste of time and bandwidth to various mailboxes at the House of Miles) to a minimum.

IMHO, it's far more trouble than it's worth.

As I've said all along, I will abide by whatever decision Randy makes, and that may simply be to utterly ignore all these threads, and let the issue go away. Fine. No problem.

But some people are forgetting - there never was a reputation feature on the UBB board. It was adopted with the transition. The implicit idea is that FT sanctions a reputation feature, and that, by extension, it matters to someone (Dan At Flyertalk, Randy Petersen, the moderators, etc.) even if it doesn't matter to you individually. So to suggest that people shouldn't care about it is a nice "sticks and stones" piece of advice, but IMO, does not conform with whatever the ideas were behind deciding to adopt a reputation feature and also the possible ways in which it could impact decisions with regard to timeouts, suggestions, etc. in any future situations.

As ClueByFour says, it should be restricted to Coupon Connection, consistent with Randy's remark that it was intended only for that forum. Though I think it will be interesting to see how turning on the automatic ID changes how people use the feature.

I'm glad I never dinged anyone

Although I don't care too much, it would be interesting to see who was small-minded enough to ding me (my one and only ding).

Everytime I see the title of this thread, I think of the old Five Keys doo-wop song "Ling Ting Tong"...

I thing I pulled out some dings at the beginning, but I hadn't yet had enough mojo, and I was pretty sure I was shooting blanks. In other words, I wasn't man enough to knock up anyone's reputation (or knock down).

The long of the short of it, I don't think anyone will be able to tell if it was a ding or a dong.

Now that I have my second chicklet. I am no longer spreading the hate, but just spreading the love. I am a love machine, and I won't work for nobody but you.

"It is better to be hated for what one is, than loved for what one is not."

Like bdschobel, I haven't looked at my reputation since it was instituted, have turned it off, and haven't left a comment for anyone else via reputation. When I have sonething to say, I post it.

Monday for me will be like any other Monday. I will continue to disregard the reputation.

I keep thinking "you forgot the bong!"

I have decided some of the negatives I would have given, could be given as positives to another thread or post.
Maybe like:
"more posts like this please, less posts like X______"
or
"This post isn't as annoying as your usual drivel!"
or even
"Finally a post from you that didn't make me puke!"

ClueByFour and I certainly do not agree on all things on FT, but I agree with him 105% on this one.

In the lead up to the Freddies, Randy and the staff surely do NOT need highly time consuming distractions like this?

I doubt they will agree with the post above saying: "Monday will be SO MUCH fun."

And not one single mile or point for anyone will ensue from the nasty mess.

Just checking. As long as you can make those same judgement calls about your own character, you are doing fine.

Who says they will allow themselves to be distracted?

I seriously doubt they will get as wound up and absurdly insane about the system as some here on the board. I also doubt any of the emails (except possibly for the "false name" ones) will get ANY attention. If I were Randy I'd be shaking my head in disbelief over the absurd rants I've seen in the past days. I suspect this silly matter is nowhere near a "priority list" on his desk unless it comes after "buy toilet paper".

Then why on earth do you have a sig that says: "Monday is FlyerTalk "Reputation" D Day = "Ding Divulging Day" ..... to read more click HERE " ?

And do not forget also on Talk Board now. I have no doubt in my mind whatever ScottC has pushed as hard as he possibly can to retain this "reputation" system. Hence all his comments on this thread.

After all, his personal ID line for weeks says his green squares "make him feel loved". (If that is not fodder for a Doctor Phil episode right there, I don't know what is!)

ScottC thinks Monday is going to be "Fun".

But like those watching a car accident - it is not nearly so much "fun" if you are the one in there cleaning up the mess. IMHO.

Of course Monday is going to be fun, it's pretty funny without even seeing names, and it's only going to get better, but best of all is watching some people here on the board make the reputation feature the new most important thing in their lives.

You don't even have it turned on and you have almost as many posts on the matter than most people on a word association thread

As for "feeling loved", when so many Flyertalkers add positive remarks to my reputation then yes, I admit I feel pretty proud of that. Just wait, a few more days and I'll have another square there.
