I'll save you all the trouble....

while trying to isolate the servers performance for a better FT experience for you all i came upon this thread. Really what we had in mind, in case you haven't come across it, the reputation is designed only for The Coupon Connection forum to help members who may find themselves engaged in a trade or exchange with another member they don't know. You may or may not appreciate this but just in case, I'm going to have to take this thread down. One thing about reputations - no rating in the world will likely change the reputation you earn by the quality of the posts you start... and contribute to.

=================================

I found this final comment from Randy earlier today (bolding emphasis mine) before he consigned the absurd 'Positive reputation points conga' thread into the "Misposted Threads" bin. (After it had been moved from S.P.A.M. to OMNI.)

I think Randy's comments above answer many of the questions on this thread.

Agree that for Coupon Connection (only) this might make some sense for some users. I have always found checking the previous posts and length of time on FT before responding to anyone in CC was very good policy and pretty quickly done.

Whether follks can ONLY post these "reputations" due to posts and transactions in CC remains to be seen - I suspect not, so I still wonder why the function needs to be enabled at all.

Funny you should bring up those threads, as you were the only one strongly disagreeing with me at the time (using the old "the fact that so many argue I'm wrong proves I'm right" trick.) I didn't much care either way for the smessier is a xxx handles. If someone wants to invest time using the new reputation FT feature to ding me, go right ahead.

Again (for the third of fourth time), those were not my fake handles, and anyone familiar with my typical post can see that simply by comparing the two word structures, tone, etc. Now, with the new software as ScottC indicated, they can trace the IP of who created those fake ID's and confirm that they were neither created nor posted from my IP. As a matter of fact, Randy indicated that they had identified who ftomnibox is, though he didn't reveal who publicly. And, again, I have dinged no one so far - karma, you see. For my money ( ), using the Ignore User feature is sufficient "punishment", though I haven't yet set that up - don't know if I will need to, given how polite everyone is being.

But it's all water under the bridge - let's let it go and not continue hijacking this thread.[/hijack]

There is a certain threshold the reputation of the person rating must exceed for their hits to count on others. If this person hasn't met that threshold, the dot for their feedback will be gray, indicating that their rating hasn't counted on your reputation, but you can still see the comment that was left.

I would also like to know what's going on.

Also, who is going to police these communications? What's to stop anyone with the will from sending abusive messages to other members? And I don't mean just OMNI - look at Air Canada; Continental and it's past troubles; ORP; from time to time all forums get stirred up and members get abusive with each other.

Are these feedback communications traceable, or are they not? If they are traceable, FT's members should know that, and that abusive communications will result in appropriate action, whether or not they sign their names. If they are not communications which are traceable, then I really see developing an unhealthy situation regressing back to some kind of abusive, food fight free-for-all as happened in the past - as Oz half-joked above, cliques of members acting in unison to run off this week's unpopular members, even, perhaps, gang wars! (that last bit was a joke.)

As I said above, I will abide by whatever decision Randy comes to.

Hey! I lost over 100 rep points overnight! Curse you evil FlyerTalk servers and/or evil FlyerTalk posters! May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your hard discs!

Just turn the darn thing off altogether, please.

Sorry, I was NOT joking about that.

And Randy seems to have already made a decision, so it is all rather moot right now.

Angry

Not ONE person who has "dinged" me has had the GUTS to identify themselves.

This is a BAD system that needs to be completely disabled.
