It seems, from what little I know, that a discussion of "moderators" may be best taken to the TB:

Apparently, it appears that I was incorrect!

As the initial attempt/thread was, the second attempt/thread to simply obtain a clarification of what the current moderator guidelines are has now also been prematurely closed due to unwarranted, unfortunate, scathing posts by members who again refuse to comply with the TOS!

Personally, I would think it is perhaps time, at last, to deal with these chronic offenders rather than to continually close threads of some conceivable value, no?

In any case, we are told that the moderator discussion has been tabled.

We are also informed that there will be no changes at this time.

Okay, thanks!

Yet can we please possibly obtain a clarification of what the current guidelines are?

I've wondered what the "qualifications", if any, are, as well as if there is any established term length or if it is perhap a lifetime appointment?

What, if anything, could lead to moderator censure, or possibly to compell removal?

Thanks very much once again for considering these questions!

I'm also tempted to ask what the established guidelines are now, if any, for a moderator closing threads!

Have a great day!

Thanks again!

-Mark

Why don't you email Randy and ask him? Even with a couple of threads closed, that must leave a few dozen where you've brought up this issue still available for a few sessions of bumpathon?

Got an idea folks. I've got just another half-day to hopefully make another magazine deadline and then i'd love to answer the concerns of doc and anyone else who has posted to this thread. Doc has waited patiently and he raises some good points. More posts, more comments isn't really going to add much here as this thread seems fairly complete in opinions as it is.

In its simplist term - moderators are members to. In chossing the latest moderators, we've been more selective than just the orginal round that were purely volunteers. Several volunteers i have had contact with lately i have had to explain a few challenges to consider given their recent applications. I remain disappointed that some of our members - perhaps even a few that posted in this thread - don't seem to comprehend what a volunteer is and being grateful that there are volunteers. We had a recent situation where a few members unfairly beat up on a moderator because they banned a member. Proposedly it was for a post the member made which didn't seem all that offensive. It was the members who decided that the post must have been the reason so they hiunded the moderator. The facts seem to bear out that the banned member had multiple user accounts and that has long been a recognized way to get yourself banned. The timing might have been coincidental but there was more to the ban than a few members assuming for themselves why the member was banned.

But, let's not beat this up too much. You've all got something valueable in your travel and frequent flyer knowledge that would be good to share with others. Let's start with volunteering that. Go out and find a post you contribute to.
