United Problem... can you help?

Randy,

I know you have inside connections with the various airlines.

There have been a number of posts where United flyers are not getting what was promised in the Triple Bonus promotion. Flyers are only getting 2X bonus instead of 3X bonus.

DO you have anyone you can contact to get this corrected? Seems like United is going back on their word... after they have done so much to get flyers back.

WARNING - UA moved the goalposts re Triple Bonus Points. Book by Dec 18 to be certain

My thread of 2 months ago (above) warned of this happening, and not everyone agreed this would occur ... it clearly now has.

There have been a ton of threads on the United boards about this. It is not news it seems? United changed their wording on the promo 2 months back.

As I posted at the time, Joh and I cancelled about 20,000 miles of UA flying this year as it was crystal clear (to us) UA was NOT going to play ball on 5 x miles for 1K and 1P members, and offer 4 x instead for those who qualified. (i.e. post only 2 x and not the inititally promised 3 x bonus on top of the usual 2 x that 1P and 1K usually get on each flown mile on UA metal.)

I most certainly can look in to this. As those who attened the Freddies last year know, the respective heads of the Mileage Plus program (airline and promotions) attened and spent time lingering later on.

I think I can find out this snafu from their end and see what the prognosis looks like. But, and I repeat, but, any time there is a disruption on FT, even the simplest flaming, it takes me away from these type of community efforts. I'm in this weekend as I was last weekend to make sure that a disruption isn't a part of your day.

As always wharvey, you're valuable as a member. Thanks for the heads up - it's been many months since I've been in the United forums.

Thank you very much Randy.

Hope you got your magazine out on time!

Randy, any help you can offer w/ the UA folk, we'll all appreciate.

Speaking for myself, I know I booked flights at certain fare levels that I might not have booked at all if it weren't for the original terms of the promo. I'll be one unhappy gal if it's not honored.

And one gal who was going to vote for UA for the Freddies & now might wait to see how they handle this.

PS - When is the closing date for voting?

Randy, thanks in advance. Lots of pest-off UA flyers out there..

Although my ticket purchases were made post- Dec 16, they were made on the basis of pre-Dec 16 info. NEVER occured to me that I'd have to check the UA website ON THE HOUR to keep an eye on changes.

IF UA had simply sent an email blast out on Dec 16 or thereabouts CLEARLY Communicating the change, I'd probably have been disappointed but would have given UA the benefit of the doubt. But for them to make the change with NO WARNING, FANFARE, FOLLOWUP COMMUNICATION is a different story, so I'm inclined to hold them to their original offer.

Again, I'm not trying to be punitive toward UA< but they clearly CHOSE to violate my trust and confidence, it wasn;t inadvertent. So, if no 3x BONUS miles, the gloves should come off!

Randy

Thanks in advance for your help. In the web page referenced in my signature line are archived copies of the original Early Bird promo and the Terms and Conditions.

AA matched the original UA offer and then did a similar change to reduce the miles. I don't have documentation for AA as I was not planning to particpate. The AA version is called FLY04.

Randy, if you talk to UA, please remind them that advertisements in January (I think including your magazine?) still state the original terms. I'm not a legal expert but doesn't truth in advertising also come into play? The ill will they're going to generate w/ not honoring the promo original terms can'at be good for them.

I had AA's original FLY04 T&C saved on my computer. Randy, I truly hope that you could help us UA and AA flyers on this. I would be ready to provide the saved files anytime - HTML, images and all. Thank you very much.

Here is the link to the terms and conditions of AA's original promotion:

Thanks for attending to this matter. I realize that FT is an enormous community and that an additional crusade, for us, taxes your time. I, and others, greatly appreciate your assistance regarding this matter. Thank you very much!

Best regards,

Sam

In my view, I hope Randy still talks to them.

Their backing down is good... but should not have been necessary.

In addition, I am disappointed that only the people who "complain" will get the original 5X... they should honor the original terms for everyone.

I-flybynight Feb 20, 2004 6:01 pm

I have spoken with customer relations over the last 5 weeks and it looks like I will get the miles also.

I did however send an email through this link today as a back up.
Maany thanks to G fowler for his orginal page capture of Dec.12/03.Without this I wouldn't of had a leg to stand on.

robert

UA has now made it official that they will honor the original terms via an "Early Bird Exception Registration" webpage. See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum50/HTML/026211.html

Thanks to the power of FlyerTalk and all the people who contacted UA. Now it is time for AA to copy this like they did the original promo.
